Sloss Furnaces: An Old Iron Industry Meets Modern Celebration

The Grand Invitation of Industry

A historical landmark in Birmingham, Sloss Furnaces presents a massive spread that can cater to large gala events or smaller private affairs. It’s not just one spot for the public to take hold of and fall in love. The little city of steel offers a variety of locations across its sprawling grounds. Historic tours are also available. Head’s up, though, as rumor has it the 40 on-site buildings play home to southern ghosts.

Good Times, No Matter What

The prodigious furnaces make for an iconic guest at any event. Everything from weddings and anniversary parties to concerts and art shows are photo-op central in the rust-colored venue. And there’s no chance of a stuffy event at Sloss. Outdoorsy and picturesque, the spot can conquer rain or shine, given its versatility as a space.

Any ceremony or reception scores a welcoming environment, whether it’s a sunset cocktail hour by the water or a night of dancing beneath twinkling lights and towers.

Customize the Space to Perfection

Bright colors explode against the old steel, so guests are invited to create custom experiences with their own special touches. Pastel flowers, desserts, and gifts shine in the daylight and pop in the evening, sprinkled under bistro lights and stars.

Create Photo Ops (Galore)

There’s a different kind of ambiance at every turn, with photographers able to choose from a roster of backdrops: open spaces, rustic places, cozy corridors, lively waterworks, looming water towers—heck, even train tracks.

Midday shoots offer up good shade and symmetry in the corridors, even casting a splendent glow at certain angles, thanks to the surrounding structures. Once the day dies down a bit, softer light makes for especially lovely personal portraits.

Tips: Be sure to check out and maybe even use the huge hand-painted signs near the parking area. And if photo subjects are down for heights, the catwalks can be wandered and utilized for a scenic blue sky setting.

The Beautiful Choices of Carly and Matt

Bride and groom Carly and Matt made ideal use of Sloss, carefully selecting each spot for the day’s festivities. The ceremony took place on the lush lawn near the water spout features with cocktail hour following shortly after and the reception bounced around beneath the water tower. Throughout, the two fashionable lovebirds were joined by their excited puppy Pippa (when he wasn’t worn out and napping under a pew).

Following Carly stepping out of her custom Olia Zavozina gown (found at Finery) and dancing back into the party donning a snazzy short number, the bride and groom kicked the festivities into high gear with a creatively stunning cake, seemingly endless dancing, and roaring bouts of laughter.

“The Magic City”

Sloss Furnace is conveniently located near Birmingham’s rapturous downtown, which does up a grand nightlife alongside unique shopping experiences. No matter how diverse an event’s guest list is, attendees can find what they’re looking for in the city.

The History Creates A Magical Setting

You must admit that gathering in the very spot that gave rise to the city of Birmingham has a romantic quality about it! In addition to the storied space having many years under it's iron belt, it has been recognized as a National Historic Landmark.

Whatever you are celebrating, this unique setting of Sloss Furnaces with its web of pipes and tall smokestacks offers a glimpse into the great industrial past of the South and the nation.

We will cheers to that!
