Located in Bantry Bay, perched on the slopes of Lion’s Head lies the elegant mansion Ellerman House. Featuring panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, it features a lush garden, outdoor swimming pool and offers a complimentary airport shuttle. Individually decorated rooms with classic furnishings come with a balcony or terrace. Each room is equipped with a satellite TV, safe and tea-and-coffee-making facilities. Ellerman House restaurant serves breakfast daily and offers a variety of cuisines with the influence of Cape Malay spices and fresh organic fruit and vegetables. Guests can enjoy a glass of wine at the bar. The spa features a sauna, steam room and a selection of treatments available upon request. Formerly the summer home of shipping magnate Sir John Ellerman, Ellerman House is a pristine example of Cape Edwardian architecture blended with understated elegance and modern luxury. The hotel consists of 13 bedrooms and two 3-bedroom villas uniquely designed to showcase panoramic ocean views and manicured gardens. Ellerman House also has the singular distinction of housing one of South Africa’s most impressive private art collections, as well as an onsite contemporary art gallery.
Standout venue features:
The first of its kind, the Wine Gallery marries the visual elements of a contemporary art gallery with the practical elements of a tasting room. The result is an immersive, interactive experience that lets guests engage with the hotel’s collection of 7,500 vintage and rare South African wines using all five of their senses. The gallery also includes a unique Champagne Cellar with special vintages of Dom Perignon, wine library, interactive iPad app, maturation cellar and brandy tasting lounge. To complete this one-of-a-kind project, Ellerman House owner Paul Harris commissioned a team of South African designers, artists, sculptors and architects to create what has become a living, breathing work of art.
