REPORTER: The Venue Report

We've all daydreamed at some point about quitting our 9-5, hailing a taxi and bolting straight to the airport to check off those #bucketlist travel goals. Ted Willis, former videographer for She Knows and frequent explorer did just that with the research and know-how to back up his itinerary and adventure timeline.

This past December, Ted strategized how to make his 2017 intention a reality. Now, he's exploring the world with his camera in hand and partnered with us to go behind the lens. "I’m on the hunt to experience cities with the people who live there. Simultaneously I am working to create documentary videos that highlight the beautiful people who find themselves in vulnerable situations around the world" says Ted Willis. Several days a week, he'll be posting travel videos on YouTube - Yep, we found a millennial traveler who's documenting every part of his journey with advice and tips on how to expand your penny and travel like a local. There’s a good chance ruins aren’t on your list of dream venues—they’re certainly unconventional—but this wedding will absolutely change your mind. A spirit of class and romance still bounces through these well-kept Antiguan ruins, and lovebirds Adriana and Cesar made sure to fill them with their most fun loved ones for such a joyous celebration. Architecture like this—a stunning masterwork of stone, iron, wood, and brick—holds a timeless beauty for events. Each courtyard and corridor, surrounded by plants or water, presents a remarkable palette of rich, dark colors. Thus, between the oil paintings and full-body statues draped over rock walls, the wedding begins to take on a fable-like quality.

The ceremony itself took place in a hall that looked like a movie set cathedral for a period epic, and the reception seems to have been the party of the year. The wedding’s photo album probably looks like half history book and half fairy tale when put together. To find out more details about such a magical affair, we had a little Q&A with the wedding’s photographer, A Fist Full of Bolts.

Urban Dictionary defines Friendsgiving as, “the celebration of Thanksgiving dinner with your friends. This usually occurs on the Wednesday before or the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, since Thanksgiving is usually reserved for family gatherings.” Yet, here at the Venue Report, we define Friendsgiving as, “a time to gather all the crazy characters in your life to sit down at one beautiful table and eat too much, drink too much, laugh too much, and have an epic dance party in a gorgeous setting.” We’re willing to bet that most of you agree with the latter definition and have likely celebrated a holiday or two in this fashion.

And since it’s not every day that we get to hear the scoop behind an awesome brand collaboration, you can imagine how stoked we were to interview photographer Hannah Merritt about this photo shoot she did with stylist and social media darling Mel Denisse. All clothing and some of the decorative accessories were provided by Urban Outfitters, and Mel put together the vision of this Friendsgiving by the lake. We’d say she pretty much nailed it, since now all we can think about is planning our next Friendsgiving. Check out what Hannah has to say about this cool collab.

As any Downton Abbey fan will happily reminisce over, the wedding scene when Lady Mary finally marries Matthew Crawley is easily the most beautiful wedding scene in all of TV history. With the perfect amount of light flooding into the big, airy mansion, and the abundance of gorgeous flowers in an otherwise dark and moody setting, there’s an air of old English gloominess that makes the celebration that much sweeter. You can imagine our excitement when we got our hands on this photo shoot with a similar vibe.

We recently had a fill-us-in session with the shoot’s creative director Amanda Rose of Oak and Cypress and photographer Kristen Marie Parker. The dream team gave us all the details of the inspiration behind this stunning photo series and the incredible property. Spoiler alert: there may or may not have been a sighting of a ghost.

Tuscan villa weddings never cease to inspire. There’s something so magical about that fragrant Italian air, the rich history, and the gorgeous architecture. And Italians seem to host weddings with such an air of simplicity, like it’s no big deal to host a dinner party for fifty or sixty people outdoors, under the clear Tuscan sky. Sara and Patrick’s wedding at Villa Catureglio has us all in total fantasy land over here, what with the Chestnut hunt in the mountains, vineyard tours, and the gorgeous meals they celebrated with.

Sara and Patrick recently filled us in on all the details of their wedding planning from afar. They worked with the creative and brilliant duo, Elyse and Katie, at BW Theory in Austin to make all their great ideas into a reality.
