Campfire Restaurant

2725 State Street, Carlsbad, CA, United States

When you think of camping, what image comes to mind? Childhood fishing? Building a campfire? Roasting s’mores? This classically nostalgic activity is about gathering those closest to you for a weekend of connecting, eating and drinking. After all, don’t we all know that a camping trip done right revolves around food… and the campfire? That’s the exact feeling, memory and emotion Carlsbad’s most unique restaurant, Campfire, is bringing to all who gather there.

John Resnick, a veteran in the San Diego culinary scene, bundled up all of the aforementioned warm-and-fuzzies as well as the smoky, soulful tastes of the campfire to bring this sensory experience to Northern San Diego. Resnick’s deeply rooted history and love for the ocean, outdoors and yes, food, has brought his passion from Point Loma to Little Italy and finally, to its permanent home in Carlsbad. Read along while Resnick shares his inspirations, passions and the road that led him to opening up his long awaited dream, Campfire.

Birthday Bucket List: Have Your Next Bday Dinner on a Floating Oyster Bar in New York
Jake Kilroy
by Jake Kilroy

This week’s #BirthdayBucketList is New York City’s favorite oyster bar. Where to score the best oysters in the Big Apple is debatable, but as far as ambiance goes, it’s downright impossible to beat Grand Banks Oyster Bar—and that’s because it’s hosted on a revitalized mid-century wooden ship known as the Sherman Zwicker.

Watching a sunset sink its fiery skin into the ocean from the New York City waterfront should be—and likely is—on everyone's bucket list. In the warmer seasons, is there a better way to appreciate the good life than toasting your friends or family with a rich blend of grand colors before you and the greatest city skyline ever behind you? No, probably not. Plus, there’s a cocktail menu and oysters!

Bring out your party horns because this week (May 31st to be precise) we celebrated #NationalMacaronDay! Is there anywhere more magnificent to celebrate such a momentous occassion than within the walls of the famous Parisian tea rooms at Ladurée Soho in New York? Stacks upon stacks of pastel sweets and treats are displayed on marble counters at this storied shop that feels like a Breakfast at Tiffany's meets Marie Antoinette moment.

Setting foot inside Ladurée is like stepping into your childhood dream as you are greeted by a myriad of macarons, tarts, eclairs and cakes in every shade in of the rainbow, set in a stylish patisserie.

History Lesson: The Butchers Daughter - This Inspiring Woman Has Opened Two Successful Restaurants!
Katie David Bush
by Katie David Bush

We've had our little gathering-locale-loving eyes a-spy on the beautiful Butcher's Daughter for a few years now, coveting the impossibly chic and sunny decor in it's East Coast eateries and heartily devouring the fresh, healthy fare. So when a little birdie told us The Butcher's Daughter was coming to the West Coast (and Venice Beach, no less) we knew we had to get the inside scoop (and squeal with delight).

Lucky for us, said little birdie happened to come in the form of fabulous Venue Report friend, Correspondent, magnificent interior designer, stylist & owner of the freaking cutest Tiny Canal Cottage (talk about high style in a small space!),  Whitney Leigh Morris. If you're not following her on Instagram @whitneyleighmorris you're just silly. She and The Butcher's Daughter owner Heather Tierney, happen to be long-time collaborators, friends and new Venice neighbors. The two had planned a fun field trip up the coast to Ojai - so Whitney kindly offered to play Venue Reporter and interview Heather during the ride. Let's just say, having these two fabulous creatives in one car must have made for a seriously rad road trip!

If you are looking to get inspired by women, these two will surely fill you up.
