When winter finally gets around to easing up, everyone wants a solid way to transition into warmer seasons. All us adventurers and romantics want is simply a cozy party with friends, possibly outdoors (and a good drink). That’s where the Tequila vs. Mezcal Party comes in like a saving grace.

Such a celebration of agave is well overdue, and it took Layered Vintage partnering up with The Gold Leaf Project to make it happen. The festivities took place in San Diego and the Venue Report was lucky enough to attend. We had an absolute blast and wanted a few more details on how it all came to be. So we scooped an interview with Jill of Layered Vintage and Aly who coordinated the whole thing.

Located in San Deigo, California is the hip and happening neighborhood of North Park filled with culture, art, entertainment and some of the best restaurants in the city. Amongst the many ahead-of-the-trend saloons and local fooderys is hidden gem, Jaynes Gastro Pub, a casual yet chic bar & eatery serving modern British pub fare & drinks. Jayne's is naturally just one of those spots that you dream of having a gathering at. With a twinkle light patio and urban vibe anything is possible. Well, for Krista and Daniel their dream came true.

They had been going on dates to Jaynes Gastro Pub for years before deciding to ask permission to use the space for their wedding. Krista and Daniel’s wedding was the first ever at the Pub. The brick flooring, market lights, and tall hedges made this back patio an ideal space for their intimate 75 guest wedding. Not only was there sentimental value in the space but it fit Krista's effortlessly romantic southwestern vision like a glove. We teamed up with wedding photographer, Brogen Jessup to give us the inside scoop on the day, details and newest venue to the San Diego area.

2016 has been a year of radical change, uncertainty about our future, and divides of the past resurging and rooting down deeper than ever. With so much affecting the future landscape of our political sphere, environment and humanity, this Thanksgiving - more than ever - is the ideal time to step away from ourselves and reflect on what is happening in the world around us. What worries you? What ignites a spark in you? What can you do to make a positive impact on our future?

Start by shifting your meaning of Thanksgiving to a Giving Gathering - the 'giving' part of this holiday. We know Thanksgiving as a time to reflect inwardly and be thankful for the good in our lives but let's change our intentions to reflect outwardly and focus on giving back when it's more important than ever. While we're still using this time to be thankful, this year rather than writing our 'thankful' notes down, we are writing down ways we want to give.

We gathered as a team to set our intentions of giving back, celebrate what's to come, and enjoy one another's company. We were inspired by the rugged coastline of the Pacific Northwest that is wild, natural, and pure. We brought our favorite dishes and recipes to share with each other while discussing causes we're passionate about, how we're getting more involved in our community, and how we're planning on making a positive impact on the world we live in. How are you giving this year?

Urban Dictionary defines Friendsgiving as, “the celebration of Thanksgiving dinner with your friends. This usually occurs on the Wednesday before or the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, since Thanksgiving is usually reserved for family gatherings.” Yet, here at the Venue Report, we define Friendsgiving as, “a time to gather all the crazy characters in your life to sit down at one beautiful table and eat too much, drink too much, laugh too much, and have an epic dance party in a gorgeous setting.” We’re willing to bet that most of you agree with the latter definition and have likely celebrated a holiday or two in this fashion.

And since it’s not every day that we get to hear the scoop behind an awesome brand collaboration, you can imagine how stoked we were to interview photographer Hannah Merritt about this photo shoot she did with stylist and social media darling Mel Denisse. All clothing and some of the decorative accessories were provided by Urban Outfitters, and Mel put together the vision of this Friendsgiving by the lake. We’d say she pretty much nailed it, since now all we can think about is planning our next Friendsgiving. Check out what Hannah has to say about this cool collab.

REPORTER: Alyssa Brown

A less famous line from Neil Young’s Harvest Moon immediately comes to mind upon reading about this wedding, “let’s go out and feel the night.” The seclusion of Joshua Tree and the secret oasis quality of this quirky cool airstream park mixed with the moody design scheme and harvest moon air make it seem like guests must've been completely wrapped up in feeling this gorgeous wedding night.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Hicksville Trailer Palace, trust us when we say it’s beyond your granny’s wildest campsite dreams. Colorful, eclectic, charming, and surprisingly low key, this is one of those Joshua Tree venues that almost seems like it’s part of the park. Gianna San Fillippo from Chic Celebrations talks us through the design ideas for this celebration, how the bride scored a Back to the Future style DeLorean, no-show caterers, and more. Sounds like it was quite the wild ride!
