A girls getaway weekend would not be complete without a little surf, sun, and style. Enter the brand spankin’ new Surfjack Hotel on Waikiki. This cute boutique hotel, on Hawaii’s favorite throwback island, packs more vintage charm punch than a rock solid beach boys-only playlist. We can totally picture you and the girl squad lounging around in your kaftans, sipping on cocktails, rocking out to rockabilly surf tunes at this cool spot.

Local art, cool surfboards, and nods to Hawaii’s epic surf culture abound at these modern digs. Check out the three-bedroom suites for some slumber party mania that’s way more grown-up than your parents’ basement.
For the DL on the new Surfjack Hotel, we went straight to the source. Here’s what their people have to say about the cool boutique motel.

Hawaiian festivities don’t always need to play out at big beachy hotels. In Maui’s countryside, among the pineapple and sugarcane fields, events are less crowded, more personal, and downright spectacular. That’s why the LeVecke family, well-known around Makawao for their warmth and rum brands for 30 years, invite you and yours to celebrate life’s many marvels at Hali'imaile Distilling Company. With a 70-person capacity, the family distillery and tasting room inevitably lands as a favorite destination for all who visit, a special spot your friends back on the mainland might not know.

The Report

This venue is VRV (Venue Report Verified), we have personally visited this venue.

Our Maui Reporter Field Trip continues to a new venue that just opened its doors last August, 2013. We were fortunate to see it under construction, and seeing the final product is incredible. They did SUCH fantastic job tailoring this venue space to meet any and all celebratory needs. We met up with the creative director, Yvette who gave us a tour of the construction zone last year. With swaying trees and the ocean breeze, we loved every bit of this ballroom beach venue. It's not easy peasy finding oceanfront venues with both indoor and outdoor space, but Sugar Beach was MADE specifically for events so every detail is aimed at making your planning seamless.

Sugar Beach Events is now open as a new oceanfront/beachside wedding and reception venue on Maui. Nestled in the center of the island on a pristine stretch of beach where spectacular ocean sunsets are the standard year round, the location captures the essence of the romance that is Maui. The venue is brand new construction designed especially for events. The architecture is an ode to the traditional Hawaiian hale (home) and features a sweeping roof line, lava rock walls and stunning stone columns designed to subtly invoke the appearance of stone poi pounders. From polished stone chandeliers to the live edge koa bar and original works of art from Avi Kiriarty (one of Maui's most renowned artists) the decor echos a natural beauty of the island with a very modern, chic and casually elegant feel. The color palette is neutral and contemporary and lays a beautiful foundation for any color scheme or style. Every detail has been thought out from an exquisitely appointed bridal salon to a grand spiral staircase that opens into the great hall and makes for a picture perfect entrance.

HOW WILL MY GUESTS GET HERE?: Location is central so easy access from all parts of island. Only 25 minutes from airport.

The Report

Oh magical Maui, how we love your warm tropical climate, balmy breezes, and recognizable smell that hits us every time we disembark off of the plane (if you missed it, also checkout our Reporters on the Road: Maui Field Notes) We always love our reporter field trips to check out venue spaces, but doing it on an island with ocean views from every vantage point is a major bonus.

The natural and pristine beauty of Maui is so spectacular, that we love when venues recognize the importance of being eco-friendly. We were extra excited to uncover a new eco-venue on the island, Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery, situated on a breathtaking 80-acres on the slopes of Mount Haleakalā. The farm boasts a 22,000 square foot grassy space called "The Point, perfect for the best pau hana sunset parties in Maui! Not only do we love the sustainable ethos of the farm, but they also produce organic vodka made from sugar cane! (Disclaimer: Vodka is the alcohol of choice for many of our reporters.) This state-of-the-art Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery utilizes solar panels to power 100% of the operations of the distillery and the sugar cane is organically farmed on the rich, volcanic soils to create the vodka. SIP SIP HOORAY!

The Experience: Driving down the winding dirt road you can see the picturesque farm perched on a hill at the end of the road. Roaming chickens and roosters seal the deal as they weave in and out of the sugar cane fields and passion fruit vines. We were greeted by a smiling Shonna, who is a local that was born and raised on the island. She emitted an immediate warmth and had so much pride about the vodka operations, venue space and the family who runs the farm. She excitedly told us that the family has planted every single sugar cane and built the farm by hand!

HOW WILL MY GUESTS GET HERE?It is easily reached from Maui’s international Kahului Airport as well as the island’s world-famous resorts.

Last year our reporters went on the road to do some on location reporting in Maui, Hawaii. With visions of floral leis, palm trees, tropical breezes and guava juice in our heads we embarked on a journey full of macadamia nut cookies, grass skirts, surfboards,  snorkel gear, coconut sunscreen smells and sand sand everywhere. And we mean everywhere including every crevice in our swimsuits.
