When we think of a former military fortress, romance isn't necessarily the first thing that comes to mind. We imagine architect-owner Antonio Obrador must have stood where the lounge is now, eyes closed, basking in a sea breeze overlooking stunning views of the bay of Palma and was overcome with the potential in this rather daunting Spanish military fortress. Thusly, he refurbished it into a dreamy destination we’d love to get lost in. Cap Rocat is a stunning waterfront hotel and wedding venue in Mallorca, Spain.

While the idea of a destination wedding is exotic and romantic in theory, for many it can be a little stressful. Without pre-planned activities, guests may feel a bit lost in a new city. Why not host a welcome event and set a sweet tone for the entirety of your wedding? But instead of a standard arrival cocktail party, Cherry on Top Events took it about three steps further and planned a pre-wedding lunch at the picturesque Cavas de Codorniu, a historic cava vineyard complete with an underground cave cellar and authentic Gothic architecture.

Rose Quartz Colored Castle
REPORTER: Katie David Bush

What is it about the juxaposition of the old and the new that's just so darn appealing? Something aged, frayed, worn, torn or historic paired with a pop of modernity or color tugs on our very design-loving heartstrings like no other. That being said, we were lucky enough to sit down with the delightful Roula Theodory from Cherry on Top Events to discuss this very topic! She planned one of the dreamiest designed weddings at rose-quartz colored castle, complete with indoor greenhouse called Castell de Sant Marcaljust 20 minutes from beautiful Barcelona. Photographers, A Fist Full of Bolts, captured this event to absolute perfection.

The results are a mix of surprising and stunning. Integrating elements of the castle's surroudings, like an abundance of sage as both favors and table runners as well as modern touches like a rock band and a VW bus photo booth make for unexpected design surprises in a special, historical setting.

When you initially consider your long-way-off wedding day as a child, as every youngin does when they discover a crush beating within their chest like a dozen fevers gone bad, you think of it as the most isolated event in the history of mankind. You see the reception, filled with friends cheering and family awkwardly dancing, and it is perfect! The daydream is just that scene replayed over and over with a confetti-like frame boxing it in. But where will this daydream come to life?!

Founded by Blanca López, who departed from a career in finance four years ago in search of something more meaningful, Les Belles Maisons, a collection of vacation homes and event spaces, is her volley answer to the mundane and the predictable. It all started with her own family’s home, a homestead not so common—a stronghold from the 17th Century. Called the Archbishop’s Palace, the exquisite spot of land and manmade glory has long resided in Huérmeces, Burgos, a city in the north of Spain famous for its cathedral, a Unesco World Heritage site.
