With millions of women around the world feeling inspired to action via the Women’s March on Washington, we’ve been scoping out various women’s networks that connect individuals across various backgrounds and ethnicities. Mogul, a worldwide platform of information sharing and social interaction, is currently at the top of our list. Reaching 18 million women per week, across 196 countries, this media platform is a force we’re excited to learn more about.

Founder Tiffany Pham (who’s only 30 by the way, *and* taught herself to code via late night sessions at her kitchen table) recently sat down to give us the whole story behind Mogul and what it means to be a female entrepreneur in the world of start-up tech. Her best advice for building community? “Be kind. Be authentic. Be generous.” We couldn’t agree more. Skip below for more tips and thoughts from Tiffany on what it is to be a true leader.

In Panama City, modern society cozies up to the Old World for a unique and charming experience, one that’s perfectly captured at The American Trade Hotel. The American Trade Hotel—AKA the Ace Panama—is a vibrant gem at “the ecological and cultural crossroads of the Americas.” Housed in a gorgeously restored landmark building, the getaway for classy jetsetters and worldly travelers alike only opened its doors a few years ago and already has a grand reputation.

It’s the hotel’s breezy balance of chic and comfortable that does it. Furniture pieces of bold earth tones are picturesquely set against black and white paint and tile in the rooms’ simple, stylish aesthetics. Meanwhile, contemporary minimalism warmly welcomes guests to the lounges and garden courtyards. At the American Trade Hotel, everything feels like in its rightful place and nothing is overdone. As we’ve adored the American Trade Hotel since it hit the hospitality scene, we chatted with Spotted SF’s Leslie Santarina, who was recently a guest. Even though her ventures are predominantly based in San Francisco, she has a wonderful habit of exploring the rest of the world too—and she has good taste.

Design fans, you’ll love the photos from this workshop that took place in Joshua Tree last fall. Block Shop, an LA-based textile company, brought together a group of creatives to teach them the Indian tradition of hand block printing using carved wooden blocks and naturally made dyes. Gathering with a group of like-minded makers and soaking up some sunshine at a homestead out in the Mojave Desert while designing scarves sounds like the perfect way to spend a Sunday.

We recently had a little chit-chat with Lily and Hopie, the sister duo behind Block Shop, and they filled us in on how they got started with their business and the inspiration behind their workshops. Stay tuned for more workshops from this crew, as they’re always adding new gatherings to their calendar. Make sure to sign up for notifications of upcoming workshops here.

New Venue Opening
Palms + Pink
Holy Matcha
REPORTER: The Venue Report

We’re all about the new new here at The Venue Report so when we received an invite to Holy Matcha’s opening party, we jumped at the opportunity to see this anticipated spot first hand. Situated in the heart of North Park, a trendy foodie neighborhood, Holy Matcha is ready to assume the title of San Diego’s newest “must know” place. Get your Instagram ready, this all pink and palm cafe couldn’t be more photo worthy with it’s marble counter, brass fixtures, velvet pink booth, and palm print wallpaper. Seriously ‘grammers, this place is a photo snapping oasis. Oh, and they serve some pretty darn good (and inventive) matcha concoctions. We sampled coconut matcha, lemonade matcha, and almond matcha while sushi was served and guests mingled and obsessed over the design. We even got an on-the-spot matcha making tutorial from the barista, Mahala.

The ladies of BayBird PR also gave us the exclusive that Holy Matcha is about to be San Diego’s hottest new venue for not only weekend visits but baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties and social events. No surprises here though as nothing rivals this unique, one-of-a-kind space in San Diego thus far. Talk about a matcha made in heaven.
