Sugar Beach Events

85 North Kihei Road, Kihei, Hawaii

The Report

This venue is VRV (Venue Report Verified), we have personally visited this venue.

Our Maui Reporter Field Trip continues to a new venue that just opened its doors last August, 2013. We were fortunate to see it under construction, and seeing the final product is incredible. They did SUCH fantastic job tailoring this venue space to meet any and all celebratory needs. We met up with the creative director, Yvette who gave us a tour of the construction zone last year. With swaying trees and the ocean breeze, we loved every bit of this ballroom beach venue. It's not easy peasy finding oceanfront venues with both indoor and outdoor space, but Sugar Beach was MADE specifically for events so every detail is aimed at making your planning seamless.

Sugar Beach Events is now open as a new oceanfront/beachside wedding and reception venue on Maui. Nestled in the center of the island on a pristine stretch of beach where spectacular ocean sunsets are the standard year round, the location captures the essence of the romance that is Maui. The venue is brand new construction designed especially for events. The architecture is an ode to the traditional Hawaiian hale (home) and features a sweeping roof line, lava rock walls and stunning stone columns designed to subtly invoke the appearance of stone poi pounders. From polished stone chandeliers to the live edge koa bar and original works of art from Avi Kiriarty (one of Maui's most renowned artists) the decor echos a natural beauty of the island with a very modern, chic and casually elegant feel. The color palette is neutral and contemporary and lays a beautiful foundation for any color scheme or style. Every detail has been thought out from an exquisitely appointed bridal salon to a grand spiral staircase that opens into the great hall and makes for a picture perfect entrance.

THE SCOOP

The beauty of Sugar Beach is that it is ideal for almost any kind of event from intimate dinner parties, luncheons or weddings to large social events, corporate events and fabulous weddings. Since opening, Sugar Beach has hosted everything from children's birthday parties, intimate birthday lunches for ten, a private wedding ceremony for two, small and large corporate events, a blowout celebration for 100 guests, and elaborate weddings. From the oceanfront lawn to the grand great hall with its spectacular ocean view the space can be created as grand or intimate as you desire. This venue has a ton of flexibility and numerous ways to configure the space for seated dinners, buffets, lounge/dance areas and more. One of the elements that stood out to us, is the private entrance to the back oceanfront lawn. This way you will keep guests guessing as they enter each space.. We love the idea of starting the party in the back grass lawn and revealing the indoor hall area later in the night!

VENUE SPACE BREAKDOWN: There is a lot of flexibility to throw an event here with four venue spaces! The Oceanfront Lawn, White Sand Beach, The Great Hall, and The Mezzanine.

WHITE SAND BEACH: Perfect for a beachside ceremony or to lounge by the fire pit and watch the sunset.

OCEANFRONT LAWN: Adjacent to the white sand beach and can be used for a lounge area and cocktail parties or the most spectacular outdoor dining under the sway of tall palm trees and a front row seat to the most stunning sunsets year round.

THE GRAND HALL: Spacious and sophisticated, the ideal location for hosting events and wedding receptions up to 140 guests. It features a lively natural color palette and is elegantly appointed with a distinct cove and LED up-lighting. The décor features oversized teak entry doors that open to a foyer with polished stone chandeliers, and an unobstructed view of the grand sliding

Yvette told us that most of the weddings have taken place with the ceremony on the white sand beach, the lounge and cocktail hour on the oceanfront lawn, followed by entering the great hall for dinner and dancing. There have also been numerous events with the dinner outside under the palms and then guests are invited for dessert and dancing inside the great hall. The oceanfront hall is a true blank canvas with floor to ceiling mirrors and a frosted window wall that baths the entire room in soft filtered natural light. We especially love the tall, vaulted ceilings!

Perfect for:

  • birthday party
  • charity event
  • corporate event
  • holiday party
  • social event
  • wedding ceremony
  • wedding reception

BONUS

This is a perfect Maui oceanside setting and the facility was built especially for weddings and events so every detail has been considered. Guest bathrooms boast every amenity, beautifully decorated with oriental rugs, fresh flowers and fine furniture. The divine meals are crafted by Chef Lee, one of Maui's top chefs and are prepared in the onsite professional restaurant kitchen at the venue.

Extra perks that are always included at Sugar Beach: Dining tables and mahogany Chiavari chairs for up to 200! (Hooray!!!), a sound system with speakers both inside and out, large screen TV for video presentations, the exquisite bridal salon with white on white decor, crystal lighting, and mirrored boudoir furniture.

STYLE FOR YOUR SETTING

The architecture of this venue is an ode to the traditional Hawaiian hale (home) and boasts live edge koa wood (a common wood found in Hawaii). The decor has a soft neutral and natural palette that lays the perfect foundation for pops of tropical colors.

1.KOA WOOD CALLIGRAPHY SIGNAGE: Koa wood is a flowering tree found all over the Hawaiian islands and can also be found on the stunning live edge bar at Sugar Beach. Incorporate this tropical tree wood into your event by hand calligraphing the menu and event signage onto the wood. Hang it in your home afterwards! (Photo: Steve Steinhardt Photography // Calligraphy: Laura Hooper  2. TROPICAL POPS: With the soft sandy palette of the venue we love bold blooms to bring in the tropical tones of Hawaii. (Photo: Jessica Lorren // Flowers: Seaport Flowers  3. WOOD WEDDING INVITES: Give another ode to the Koa wood with these engraved wood invites. We also love the tropical touch of the hibiscus flower in the envelope liner by Oak & Orchid.

INSIDE SCOOP

One of the best features of Sugar Beach (besides the obvious.....location!) is that it was designed with events in mind. The entrance for your event is through a gorgeous lava rock wall and down a lush garden path that opens onto the oceanside setting for ceremony, cocktail or dinner area.....(Wow factor for sure!) Not only is this beautiful but it allows the setting in the great hall for dinner or dancing to be kept a surprise until the full length of the of the glass wall is opened oceanside and guest are invited in. Once inside they are still sitting with a spectacular ocean view because the whole front of this room is glass that opens onto the oceanfront!
