Calling all boho brides and all around gypsetters! If you’re looking for the ultimate destination wedding in a secluded desert hideaway, feast your eyes on La Pauseretreat—a luxury eco-friendly resort just 45 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.

Photographer Leila Brewster spent a few magical days among event industry friends The Special Day , Ever After Honeymoons, and Elysium Productions, at this beautiful oasis. She highly recommends it for couples who desire to marry with true Moroccan flair in a setting far-removed from nearly all modern-day interferences.  It would also be a magical setting for group getaways, retreats and dinner parties under the starry sky.

The Scoop

La Pausefounder Frédéric Alaime conceived of the resort in 2003 while visiting the area. He leased the land from a local olive farmer and built a home on the property; later adding lodges, a kitchen, staff, and a full lineup of activities to entertain patrons.

Aside from breathtaking scenery, what makes La Pause special is the disconnect guests experience from the outside world: there is no cell service, no internet, and (gasp!) no electricity. But a stay here is hardly roughing it. Rooms are all lushly appointed with simple furnishings, fully-equipped bathrooms, and heated running water.

The Food

Seasonal gourmet meals are enjoyed family-style under nomadic tents that allow you to take in the magnificent scenery. And when the sun goes down, the true other-worldliness of this desert haven reveals itself: candles and lanterns illuminate the property, creating a beautiful glow.

Those who wish to linger longer can enjoy any number of planned activities during their stay, from camel rides to cross golf to donkey polo. Or simply lounge by the resort pool, stroll through the olive groves, or nap on one of several terraces set up for the pure purpose of relaxation.

Event Details

La Pause is equipped to host any variety of events as intimate or grand as you dream. And with such stunning surroundings, you don’t need much décor to make it feel special.

For large celebrations, the venue can erect tents under which to host a reception—although a candlelit meal under the stars would be just as lovely. You can also entertain your guests with a number of performers, from traditional Arabic musicians to acrobats to fire eaters and more. And for a showstopper, why not enter or exit your wedding ceremony atop a camel?

Inside Scoop

1. La Pause prides itself on fresh, seasonal fare. They even produce and press their own olive oil on site. “The cuisine was some of the best tagine I’ve had.”

2. Leila says the outdoor showers are not to be missed. The lodges are all set far enough apart to ensure complete privacy.

Around Town

If you and your guests are feeling a bit too disconnected, head back to Marrakech and you’ll quickly be enveloped by the constant hum of the city. There are plenty of places to shop, dine and stay. A big plus: the street vendors are a great resource for curating local items to set the tone of your event.
