Handsome Hollow

HANDSOME HOLLOW, County Road 28, Long Eddy, NY, United States

What started out as a weekend home away from the hustle of NYC, has turned into a stunningly renovated modern retreat ready for your romantic nuptials or primed to accommodate your big family venture, and to think just over 14 years ago, this historic homestead would’ve appeared to be in desperate need of a bulldozer. According to Kate, the owner of Handsome Hollow when her and her husband Huck saw the homestead for the first time, it had ceiling fans and spray paint adorned the walls. These days, it’s reno’d interiors boast gallery walls, fine vintage furniture, and enough embellished detailing to make even the most crate and barrel enthused blush.

A South African Farm Fresh Garden Getaway
Cortnie Fausner
by Cortnie Fausner

Inspired by the mythical gardens of Babylon, this farm hotel spanning eight acres, would make even Adam and Eve feel right at home. With over 300 plants, the fruit and vegetables are harvested for guests to munch on in the restaurant (there will be absolutely no need to count calories here.) You will find yourself meandering around the farm and discovering berries, bees, ducks, chickens, a prickly pear maze, a HUMAN size bird nest and even gravity fed waterways. Yep, the gardens are watered the same way they would have been 300 years ago. There is no need to reinvent the wheel right?!

Gather at this Williamsburg B & B. Adirondack Cowboy Sensibility included.

The Report

Saddle up, swarthy adventure seekers and dust off your boots! When you arrive at this diamond in the wilds of Williamsburg, you will discover a veritable love letter to the old West as told by the most ruggedly posh of urban cowboys. By day, owner Lyon Porter, is the Director of Sales for a Manhattan-based real estate company, and by night a self-confessed innkeeper “cowboy.” Porter bought this property a little over a year ago with the intention of renovating and turning it into a series of apartments. Yet, something happened on a surf trip to Nicaragua. It changed him in a way that only travel can and in lieu of the big paycheck, he followed his east coast heart on the dusty trail west, while keeping his spurs firmly planted in the Big Apple.

He speaks lovingly of the Williamsburg of yore, yes much like the Old West when trains didn’t run on schedule, shootouts were common and ahem, ladies of the night set up shop on every corner. While there are plenty of developments in progress nowadays as well as extremely lovely and posh boutique hotels setting up shop, there is nothing quite like living the Cowboy Way at Urban Cowboy, a Brooklyn Bed & Breakfast.

HOW WILL MY GUESTS GET HERE? Out-of-towners can fly into either La Guardia or JFK and take a bus or subway, local city dwellers can take the L-train.

Kemble Inn

Kemble Inn and Restaurant, Kemble Street, Lenox, MA, United States

The Report

This venue is VRV (Venue Report Verified); Venue Report Correspondents Leila Brewster Photography, True Events & mStarr Event Design, have personally thrown an event at this venue. Last week we shared stunning images and the full scoop from a group of incredible event planners who recently hosted a Berkshires girls getaway at this venue. It was chock full of flowers, mixology classes, a slumber party in PJ's and ended with a dinner party! They creatively called it the #INNspiredescape. You can see the full report along with their lovely floral crowns in our feature here.

In 2010, a 125-year-old Gilded Age mansion set in the Berkshires, underwent extensive renovations, with stunning contemporary furnishings and interior design. It later opened it's doors to rave reviews from guests who exclaimed, “Not your grandmother’s Bed and Breakfast!” and “Ralph Lauren style in Lenox!”. Two years later, The New York Times reported that the breakfast here, could very well be the best in the country!

Berkshire County — better known simply as “the Berkshires” — is a long strip of land along the western border of Massachusetts bordered by Vermont, New York and Connecticut, and adorned by the soft, rolling peaks of the Appalachian range.  Built in 1886 as the country home for President Chester A. Arthur’s Secretary of State, Kemble Inn has a historical and storied past. Usher it successfully into the modern age with sophistication, whimsy and thoughtful design courtesy of owner, Scott Shrott. Perfectly positioned between the Berkshire Mountains and Lenox Village you’re either steps away from the town’s charms or a “million miles away from everywhere” on the lush length of back lawn.

HOW WILL MY GUESTS GET HERE?: Fly into nearby Albany (approx. 38 miles away) and rent or take a car to Lenox, nestled in the heart of the Berkshire mountains. If you come in through Mass Pike, you’ll pass Trinity Church, built in 1888 in the Gothic Revival style and noted for it’s grandeur. Or if you’re local its an easy-peasy drive from New York City/Boston/Connecticut areas.
