St. Joseph's Guesthouse is like an old dream that stays with you. An intimate Australian chapel, wonderfully strengthened by history and dynamically surrounded by a grassy landscape, the forest gem enthralls couples and guests alike. It practically sings from the hilltop. Sneakily tucked in the Lower MacDonald Valley, the restored five-bedroom family-owned stone getaway invites you with a charm that seems to transcend centuries, a vibrant relic that welcomes the art of conversation over grand feast. Modern Wedding Romance Set in Old Scottish Highland Church Ruins
Alyssa Brown
by Alyssa Brown

We recently had a little chat with the amazing photographer and videographer Liron Erel about a wedding he captured in the Scottish Highlands and it has us all starry-eyed over this stunningly beautiful part of the world. Set in an old castle that dates back to the thirteenth century, this wedding is like a walk back in time.

A bit bohemian and more than a little stylish, this couple exchanged their wedding vows in the walled ruins of an old church on the grounds of Blair Castle that looks straight up to the sky. Guests dined in the main castle and ended the night with a dance party even J.Lo would be jealous of. The starkly beautiful contrast of the couple's wedding attire (bright blues & sequins, hello) with the stunning natural backdrop and foggy day conjurs up a scene usually reserved for a massively curated editorial piece. As we say around here, sometimes, life just gets it right.

Chateau La Durantie

La Durantie Est, 24270 Lanouaille, France

The beauty of the French Chateau La Durantie isn't subtle, understated or any kind of low-key - it's spectacular, opulent and utterly lovely for any fairy-tale celebration - which is how we like it. Built in 1830, as a residence for the Duke of Isley - it's nestled in Dordogne in the southwest of France. The Duke was revered as a national hero for his work as a statesman as well as his military service under Napoleon Bonaparte and King Louis Phillipe - but he had some pretty fabulous taste too!

Castell De Sant Marcal: A Rose Colored Castle is the Backdrop for a Greenhouse Gathering!
Katie David Bush
by Katie David Bush

What is it about the juxaposition of the old and the new that's just so darn appealing? Something aged, frayed, worn, torn or historic paired with a pop of modernity or color tugs on our very design-loving heartstrings like no other. That being said, we were lucky enough to sit down with the delightful Roula Theodory from Cherry on Top Events to discuss this very topic! She planned one of the dreamiest designed weddings at rose-quartz colored castle, complete with indoor greenhouse called Castell de Sant Marcaljust 20 minutes from beautiful Barcelona. Photographers, A Fist Full of Bolts, captured this event to absolute perfection.

The results are a mix of surprising and stunning. Integrating elements of the castle's surroudings, like an abundance of sage as both favors and table runners as well as modern touches like a rock band and a VW bus photo booth make for unexpected design surprises in a special, historical setting.
