Everything you need to know about promoting yourself and your work to the press, taught by the ultimate insiders: a top design journalist, Monica Khemsurov of Sight Unseen, and a top PR executive, Gillian Sturtevant of Camron PR. You’ll learn how to tell your story in a compelling way, how magazines decide what to publish, how to avoid the biggest mistakes people make when approaching the media, and the exact steps you should take when you’re ready to go out there and get people’s attention.

Monica Khemsurov 

In addition to being a co-founder of Sight Unseen, an online magazine uncovering what’s new and next in design and the visual arts, Monica Khemsurov has spent the last 15 years working in the print journalism world. She began as an editor and writer at New York Magazine and I.D. magazine, and since 2009 has been a freelance writer and market editor for publications including Details, Bon Appetit, W, Businessweek, Departures, and T magazine, for which she currently serves as a contributing editor. 

Gillian Sturtevant
As Associate Director of Camron PR of Los Angeles, Gillian has worked on media campaigns and strategy for a range of clients, including Kartell, Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Barber & Osgerby,  Chamber, Airbnb, Calico Wallpaper, Paperless Post, and Yves Behar. Gillian joined Camron in 2013, bringing five years of experience in communications and marketing in the artistic, cultural and architectural spheres. While working towards her degree, she held internships with the Rubin Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Upon graduating, Gillian moved to Hanoi, Vietnam, where she oversaw communications for Bui Gallery, a Hanoi and Paris based contemporary art gallery, before being asked to help manage marketing and communications at Indochina Capital, Vietnam's premier design-oriented real estate developer. Gillian holds a degree in Art & Architectural History from the University of Pennsylvania.

About the Host

The Line Hotel

There's an unmistakable sense of "cool" at The Line Hotel, a mid-century building located in L.A.'s Koreatown. 

A collaborative effort headed by the Sydell Group, the décor is industrial hip, with raw cement walls, floor-to-ceiling views of the Hollywood Hills and a diverse collection of multimedia works by contributing artists adorning the rooms.
