10 of Southern California's Best Bathrooms for Selfies, According to Our Designer

Bathroom selfies were so 2010 until they were resurrected for 2019, or maybe that's just me. New venues, hotels and restaurants are putting extra love and care into designing their bathrooms ensuring no corner, stall or porcelain throne goes unnoticed. And it's easy to see why – great bathrooms lead to a better guest experience, and these photos are all proof of that. If something as simple as a bathroom can create conversation, memories and the ever precious photo-opp, then the hospitality industry needs to take note: make your loo cool and the people will come.

Throughout my time in Los Angeles and San Diego, I drank a lot of water (probably even more cocktails) and visited a lot of bathrooms to report back to you on the crème de la crème of the selfie-ing potential of these 'rooms.

Ironside Fish & Oysterlearn more

One word: trippy. You won’t get seasick here at this quirky, nautical restaurant, but you will feel like you are the king of the sea. All four bathroom walls are mirrored, creating an endless reflection of yourself. I hope you like what you see.

Jeune et Jolie

Carlsbad, California
Where the epic bathroom selfies were born. This was the first bathroom selfie I’ve ever taken... and actually posted on Instagram. This bathroom’s pic potential was so fire we even named it Bathroom of the Year. After this selfie, I knew my true calling was taking epic bathroom selfies around the town, but I have to thank Bells and Whistles Design, for without their eclectic design choices at Juene et Jolie, I would not be where I am today.

Jeune et Jolie

Carlsbad, California
Of course there’s not one, but two epic bathrooms at Jeune et Jolie. Both identical design, but with a color swap. The robin’s egg blue bathroom is just as stunning, with a graphic wallpaper paired, gold sconces and a beautifully arched mirror to compliment the mirco-tiling, all the perfect checklist for an epic selfie.

Valentina

Encinitas, California
Black, white, and hand painted. I’m into it. Located on HWY 101 in Encinitas, California, this neighborhood restaurant took interior design inspiration from Leanne Ford’s signature black and white style and even installed some of her original pendants.

The Guild

San Diego, California
Named one of the most anticipated openings with our team of reporters, The Guild is just what San Diego has been missing… a new spot for bathroom selfies. From a sophisticated lobby with contemporary flair to an outdoor courtyard that will transport you to the French Riviera, interior designer Sormeh Rienne definitely did not forget about the heavy impact of a lobby bathroom. You can enjoy large brass pendants, terrazzo tile and glossy, deep navy subway tiles while freshening up. You can see more of The Guild & Luca here.

Freedman's

Silver Lake, Los Angeles, California
You won’t find Waldo in this Jewish deli, but you’ll have a great time marveling and trying to find solid ground in this bathroom. Every wall in Freedman’s is floor to ceiling wallpaper and the bathrooms are no exception. The wallpaper in the bathrooms are actually more complex and detailed than the actual restaurant, I guess to occupy your eyes while sitting on the porcelain throne that is actually hand-painted in 24-karat gold-leaf trim.

Inside tip: Every bathroom has a different wallpaper, so drink a lot of water… if you know what I mean.

Palihotel Westwood Village

Westwood Village, Los Angeles, California
This is the second most fire selfie I’ve ever taken. The fans loved it. Maybe it was the silver details in the pendants or the light grey walls or maybe it was my vacation pants, whatever the case, Palihotel Westwood Village turns out to be my favorite hotel in Los Angeles.

The Kassi Clublearn more

Attention Los Angeles: The Kassi Club is here & it's taking you to Greece, no really, you can see here. Yes, this restroom seems dark, but it’s so moody I couldn’t help myself. With the smell of Le Labo’s Santal 26 burning in the corner, you might just want to hang in the bathroom, because it’s a vibe in itself.
