Enjoy the use of all three rustic, chic style venues, which includes the Klapmuts Stoor, seating up to 100 guests to enjoy your family feast dining experience, the White Studio for your surprise dessert installation and the Rustic Studio to dance the night away.
 
STUDIO WEDDING PACKAGE
Seats up to 50 guests
For smaller weddings for up to 50 guests, the Studio Wedding package is the ideal choice with its intimate family feast dinner and surprise dessert installation hosted in the White and Rustic Studios.

KLAPMUTS STOOR
Dine in style in our original and historic barn-style building with its white walls and thatch ceiling.

WHITE STUDIO
Characterized by its white floor, white roof and white walls the light and airy White Studio is generally used for smaller, intimate weddings or for the secret dessert installation. Surprise your guests with an incredible array of white desserts and cheeses in this all-white space.
Capacity: 38 guests seated at one long table
RUSTIC STUDIO
The Rustic Studio allows for a darker mood set by wooden floors, exposed stone walls and exposed thatch ceiling. Perfect for dancing the night away or enjoying their decadent chocolate dessert installation in old world charm.

The Scene:

Babylonstoren, a Cape Dutch farm, lies at the foot of the dramatic Simonsberg mountain, between Paarl and Franschhoek. Simplicity, style and a celebration of nature’s abundance are the hallmarks of any event at Babylonstoren.

Enjoy our exceptional garden, surrounded by original and historic Cape Dutch farm buildings, where you will be framed by a backdrop of magnificent trees and dappled sunlight dancing on the vineyards.

Design:

The Babylonstoren garden is at the heart of the farm. It was inspired by the Company's Gardens of the Cape, where for centuries ships would replenish with sweet water, vegetables and fruit at the halfway station between Europe and Asia. It also hales back to the mythical garden of Babylon.

Spanning eight acres, the Babylonstoren garden is formal in structure. Every one of over 300 varieties of plants in the garden is edible and it is grown as biologically as we can. Fruit and veg are harvested year round for use in our restaurant. The garden is divided into fifteen clusters spanning vegetable areas, berries, bees, indigenous plants, ducks and chickens and includes a prickly pear maze. Gravity feeds water into waterways from a stream into the garden as it was done for 300 years.

Following the bell tower axis, the old cellar axis or the Babylonstoren hill axis, walks span over three kilometres in the garden. During spring, 7 000 clivias bloom down by the stream, where a secluded path runs in the shade of wild olives and oaks.

Standout Venue Features:
THE GARDEN

Whatever the season, there is always something happening in our garden. Guests are invited to join in the harvesting, pruning, planting or picking of our many fruit, herbs, nuts, spices and vegetables. Walks span over three kilometres in the garden and the gardeners would love to give you a guided tour every day at 10h00. Bookings essential.

SPA, GYM AND SWIMMING POOL

After a workout in our gym overlooking the garden, guests can relax at our GardenSpa. The swimming pool is a restored farm reservoir and perfect for hot summer days.

WINE

Join our daily guided cellar tour at 12h00. The tour will take guests through the whole winemaking process, past the vineyards, through the olive press, cellar and maturation cellar and includes the wine tasting. Tour starts at the hotel reception. R50 per person. Our range of 7 wines are also available for tasting at the Wineshed. Open Monday to Sunday 09h00-17h00 at R25pp plus R10 per wine extra for our flagship wines.

OUT AND ABOUT ON THE FARM

Go for a run or stroll up the Babylonstoren koppie - the views and fynbos vegetation are worth the effort. Guests may also choose to canoe on the farm dam, cycle through the vineyards and orchards or amble down the spruit which is lined with 7000 clivias. There are 200 hectares of this working farm to explore.

EAT

Come and enjoy superb cuisine in our restaurant called Babel, or enjoy a cup of tea and other various liquids and infusions in our Greenhouse while nibbling on fresh salads being cultivated inside and also from the garden, breads from the old wood-fired oven along with a variety of dressed meats and handcrafted cheeses.

THE WERF (FARM YARD)

Discover Babylonstoren’s 320 year old Cape Dutch werf. The Manor House dates from 1777 and pioneer structures go all the way back to the founding of the farm in 1690. The Koornhuis (for storing wheat), old cellar, ornate fowl house, pigeon loft, leaning bell tower and historic gates all embellish a traditional courtyard surrounded by a low, whitewashed wall.

BIRDWATCHING

Over and above the variety of domestic farm fowls and pigeons in the historic Fowl House and the 100 snail-harvesting ducks, Babylonstoren is home to a myriad of bird species. Armed with binoculars, guests spend gentle hours ticking off birds from the farm’s list.

Follow the light and let your camera capture the beauty of the historical buildings, the vineyards, the garden and the surrounding amphitheatre of mountains.

Babylonstoren provides easy access to the wine farms of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek also Cape Town, Cape Point, whale watching and shark diving are all close enough for a day’s adventure. Golf courses within easy reach.

    Babel Restaurant:

    Our food leans towards simplicity – but with an edge.  Meals are creative though always clear in structure.  Vegetables and fruit gathered daily from the garden are often served with their skins on.  Helpings are generous and meals may be taken either in the glass enclosed restaurant or under the Plane trees in the courtyard, depending on the weather.No fuss

    We don't like to tamper unduly with food or slash it to bits - pick, clean, serve is our approach.  Food reflects the colours of the season: in summer we may serve you an Orange Salad of pumpkin, oranges, carrots and maybe a handful of pomegranate seeds; in winter there will perhaps be a slow-cooked leg of lamb to warm you up.


    The Greenhouse restaurant:

    The Greenhouse is open 7 days a week from 10h00 until 16h00. Positioned under recently planted medium sized oak trees at the back of the garden, with a collection of tables and colourful Luxembourg chairs – the classic park chair design (both inside and outside the conservatory) – the greenhouse-cum-tearoom is a surprising though perfectly logical refreshment station for guests who have completed the garden tour.

    This 26m-long eye-opener made of dark green steel and 4mm hardened glass allows us to experiment with varietals that have struggled or flopped – largely due to the Western Cape's winter rainfall and lack of humidity in summer – in our breathtaking formal fruit and vegetable garden. Exotic granadillas, ginger, cardamom, pineapples, dragonfruit, vanilla, guavadellas and much more – even a baobab tree – now have a new and happier home.

    Come and enjoy a cup of tea and other various liquids and infusions while nibbling on fresh salads being cultivated inside and also from the garden, breads from the old wood-fired oven along with a variety of dressed meats and handcrafted cheeses. And to top it all – everything that you eat or taste here you can go and buy in our Farm Shop!

    Inspired by the mythical gardens of Babylon, this farm hotel spanning eight acres, would make even Adam and Eve feel right at home. With over 300 plants, the fruit and vegetables are harvested for guests to munch on in the restaurant (there will be absolutely no need to count calories here.) You will find yourself meandering around the farm and discovering berries, bees, ducks, chickens, a prickly pear maze, a HUMAN size bird nest and even gravity fed waterways. Yep, the gardens are watered the same way they would have been 300 years ago. There is no need to reinvent the wheel right?!
