Venue Setting

The Estates of Sunnybrook, Toronto's most gracious reception and event facility is nestled on forty tree-filled acres with spectacular landscaped gardens. The Estates of Sunnybrook includes three historic buildings, each now converted into elegant private event venues. 

The two smaller venues, McLean House and the Coach House, host events with an intimate, residential feel. Vaughan Estate, the larger home, offers the grandeur of formal ballrooms and magnificent architecture. Located minutes from downtown Toronto, The Estates of Sunnybrook is the picture perfect location for Toronto weddings,social and corporate events.

Hosting an event at The Estates of Sunnybrook also allows you to give back, as revenue generated are contributed to ongoing medical research at Sunnybrook health Sciences Centre.

Additional Charges

~ In addition to the rental cost for the venue space, minimum revenue requirements apply. These minimum revenue requirements are net of room rentals, service charge and taxes. Minimums are determined by the space, day of the week, and time of day you are looking to book the space for. 

~ Additional fees apply for on-site ceremonies. Theses fees are determined by the space and time of year.

~ All food and beverages are subject to an 18% service charge plus applicable taxes.

~ There is a service charge for a celebration cake brought in by the client.

~ A fee is paid to the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) and Re:Sound for your right to use copyrighted music. The charges are based on the licensing fee for each venue based on the square footage of the rooms.

~ 13% HST (Ontario Harmonized Sales Tax)

The Scene:
The Estates of Sunnybrook is a serene and secluded facility, housed in two historic homes that have been lovingly restored and are now used for hosting intimate private functions. We offer elegant, residential atmosphere that welcomes guests. Extensive grounds surrounds both home, allowing guests the freedom to stroll outside. 
Design:
McLean House

The history of McLean House dates back to 1928 when James Stanley McLean, President and founder of Canada Packers, commissioned architects George Moorhouse and King Associates to design a unique home for his family on 50 acres of rolling land that he had purchased for $92,000.

The result was Bay View, now known as McLean House, one of Ontario's most splendid Georgian-style mansions. The fieldstone manor house was embellished with Palladian windows, classic moldings, a grand staircase, high ceilings, and spacious rooms. The acres of gardens were spectacularly landscaped by Gordon Culham, a landscape architect who worked in the grand English country house tradition.

McLean House remained the home of the McLean family until 1966, when the widow of J.S. McLean moved to a smaller home. The University of Toronto took over the property, and it was converted by Sunnybrook Hospital into a clinical facility.

In 1982 McLean House was renovated and revitalized by the Junior League of Toronto and the Interior Designers of Ontario, who opened it to the public as a Designers’ Showcase home. Following this revitalization, McLean House was opened by Sunnybrook as a venue for social and corporate events, with proceeds going to fund medical research at the hospital.

Vaughan House

The Vaughan Estate, originally known as Donningvale, was built in 1931 as a family home for John James Vaughan, Vice President of the T. Eaton Company. The house was designed by architects Burden and Gouinlock in a simple Elizabethan style; typical of a large country manor. The home was sumptuously appointed with massive fireplaces, intricate cornice moldings, carved plaster ceilings, and leaded casement windows with gracefully curved handles. The grandeur continued through beautiful walkouts onto a series of tiered patios, gardens and stone pathways, overlooking their extensive grounds and the Don River Ravine.

After the death of Vaughan, his estate was also used as a clinical facility for the Sunnybrook Health Science Centre. Its restoration came in 1991 when six interior designers donated their time and talent to renovating and revitalizing the home. Now, along with its neighbour, McLean House, it provides a stunning backdrop for private social and corporate events.

Main Ballroom:
Located in the Vaughan Estate, the Main Ballroom offers chandelier lighting with large windows allowing lots of natural lighting into the space. There is a patio space off of the ballroom, as well as a separate reception space and bar area.

Courtyard Ballroom:
Located in the Vaughan Estate, the Courtyard Ballroom offers chandelier light with large glass windowed doors along the ballroom allowing lots of natural lighting into the room. There is a large exclusive patio off of the ballroom that overlooks the ravine, with a separate reception space and bar area.
