The property is located on 38th Street, which not long ago was a remote area, today is the best and most new area of Playa del Carmen, just steps from the beach and a few meters from the famous 5th Av. La Semilla is located next to the famous restaurant La Cueva del Chango and surrounded by cenotes, Mayan ruins and jungle. This B & B with nine rooms, which is adults only, combines the mystery of his past with strong artistic personality of its present.

Hotel La Semilla B & B has a relaxed atmosphere. The organic and simple design forms reflect a sense of history, heritage, style and simplicity of Mexico inspired by the movement "Rough Luxe". We define the "Rough Luxe" as the style of imperfection created by the ravages of time. Dedicated to authentic and simple, reversing the past from the youth perspective of the present. Most of the furniture and the details have been found in flea markets around Mexico and Yucatan different estates. The careful placement of all objects and materials create a very unique sophistication that redefines luxury for us. The color White offers light, tranquility and a feeling of spaciousness. White can be romantic, rustic, traditional or contemporary, but never go out of style since the Blanco is eternal.

The Report

It is said “fate loves the fearless” and if that is so than it is never more true than for the owners of Hotel La Semilla in Playa del Carmen, Mexico – Alexis Schärer and Angie Rodriguez. Adventurous of spirit and authentic of heart, they met by chance if one believes in coincidence. In theory it sounds like good old-fashioned romantic cinema —a wayfaring, globetrotting couple who start working at The Plaza Athenee Hotel on the same day, become fast friends and discover they both want to open their own hotel.

One might say both Angie and Alexis were headed for hospitality if one believes in such things being destined or fated. In Alexis Schärer’s case, he grew up in the hotels his father ran and later the same career choice took him to London, Mallorca, and St. Moritz, amongst others. Mexican-born Angie Rodriguez studied hotel management too but also tried her hand at photography, jewelry design, and painting. With their combined sensibilities and experience a passion project unpetaled and bloomed into Hotel La Semilla, very fittingly, Spanish for “seed.”

HOW WILL MY GUESTS GET HERE?: Hotel La Semilla is just over a mile from Playa del Carmen’s ADO International Bus Station, and about an hour’s drive from Cancún International Airport (CUN).
