Inside Scoop

Fun fact: The Doetsch family has roots in Callicoon that go back more than five generations. During Prohibition in the 1920s one great-grandfather distilled “apple jack” in a shed on the property—until the day he fell asleep during brewing and the shed burned down. Now we are reviving and updating the orchard-to-bottle process, which, in 2020, you'll be able to see in action.

The Scene:

Seminary Hill sits atop a ridge overlooking the Delaware River with stunning countryside in all directions, offering an unforgettable backdrop for your wedding, whether it’s an intimate gathering, extravagant party, or somewhere in between. Our 65-acre estate holds winding hiking and cross-country ski trails and a fire pit. Atop the highest hill, you can see the historic St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary that gives our venue its name.

Weddings take place against a unique landscape depending on the season. In spring, our trees bloom delicate pink and white flowers. In summer, colorful fruits grow against deep green leaves. In autumn, apples and pears hang ripe for the picking amid vibrant fall foliage.

Your wedding anniversary won’t simply be a date on the calendar, it will represent a unique moment in the life cycle of an apple tree. We invite you and your family to revisit our orchard and cider mill for years to come, recalling your vows and celebrating your future.

Overlooking the orchard, the cidery combines a ground-floor production facility with a top -floor tasting room and event space. The wood inside and outside the cidery is larch reclaimed from the underwater pilings of the old Tappan Zee Bridge. Distinctively shaped table tops throughout the tasting room are made from oak cleared from the land while building the cidery. Nestled next to the Tasting Room is our 250 person event tent. Whether you stage your event indoors or outdoors, you will have spectacular views of the Delaware River Valley. We can organize special tours of the orchard and cidery for your guests, or you can present your guests with bottles of ciders as mementos of your event.

Standout Venue Features:
Starting in 2020, our cathedral-ceiling tasting room can offer not just a gorgeous reception venue, but also a fun afternoon activity! You can tour our facility to learn about the complete orchard-to-bottle process and taste our distinctive ciders while enjoying stunning views of the orchard and surrounding landscape.
