The Lowdown Venue Setting
Tallula’s is an ingredient-driven, neighborhood Mexican restaurant located in Santa Monica Canyon just a few hundred feet from the beach. Celebrated Rustic Canyon Family restaurateurs Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan both grew up going to this location in its former incarnation as Marix Tex Mex, and long thought of doing their own personal project in the space. When the opportunity came up, they partnered with Rustic Canyon Chef/Co-owner Jeremy Fox, and they’re now fulfilling that dream.
The kitchen at Tallula’s is overseen by Jeremy, whose love for great ingredients and passion for cooking is translated into a menu full of rich, bold flavors and imaginative takes on familiar Mexican dishes. The seasonally-inspired menu sources ingredients from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market and other local purveyors the chef knows and trusts. The Mexican-inspired dessert menu was created by Zoe, a celebrated baker, and is run by the Tallula’s team. The restaurant also has a great bar focused on agave-based spirits and fresh market produce, plus well-curated wine and beer lists paired to match the flavors of the food.

The private event space on the second floor is perfect for birthdays, cocktail parties, wedding rehearsals, company meetings and special dinners. With a dedicated bar for mixing up margaritas and serving wine and beer, this light-filled and casual room can host a seated dinner for 32 or a standing party for 50 people. Additional outdoor space for a party can extend into the parking lot, along with a taco cart for off-site events.

Tucked away in a leafy canyon on the edge of Santa Monica and the Pacific Palisades, the restaurant is just a few hundred from the beach, on the other side of the Pacific Coast Highway. Design: Original features include large oak and glass doors, dark wood-paneled ceilings, rustic columns and ornate Hawaiian Koa wood banquettes. White ceilings and a coastal color palette inspired by nature—pink sunsets, green palms, blue waters—evoke the relaxed sensibilities of Tulum, Mexico and Tallula’s beach town locale. Vintage Mexican posters, Californian artwork and festive, embroidered hangings adorn the walls. Vibrant splashes of green and turquoise create an aesthetically engaging bar, with an array of vintage orange glass lanterns saved from Marix dangling above. Custom, fabricated painted steel tables with bright hand-painted Mexican Talavera tiles are featured throughout the bar area and patio. An open kitchen faces the main dining room and is lined with bright yellow tiles on the counter framed by pink and orange walls—a color palette inspired by legendary Mexican architect Luis Barragán. The lounge area, providing a strong dose of culture at the threshold, features colorful plush seating, rich leather chairs, and walls bathed in oranges and pinks. The restaurant’s central staircase features a variety of hanging plants that leads up to the private dining room. On the second floor, blonde wood floors, a large communal table and white walls lighten up the private dining room, while light gray fabric-covered wood chairs and latticed metal bar stools lend a sense of modernity to the vintage, beach canyon-chic décor. Standout Venue Features: We have a large selection of Mexican spirits, so our team can also craft a mezcal/tequila tasting or flight to complement your meal. While Tallula's is open for dinner every day, we can also do daytime buyouts with more brunch/lunchtime fare. Awards & Notables Eater National featured our beachy-chic, whimsical design in a dedicated story. BizBash highlighted our Private Dining Room as a top, new venue. Gwyneth Paltrow and the Goop team are fans of ours! C Magazine, among many other local and regional publications, spotlighted our opening back in Spring 2017.
