    The world has no shortage of traditional hotels. Sure, we’ve been around since 1946, but our idea of what a hotel should be hasn’t. We believe modern travel should be about flexibility, simplicity and exploration. If we were formal enough to write a mission statement, it would read like this: A centrally located San Diego hotel with a great atmosphere, great food, great people and great beds.

    This approach influences everything we do. And most things we don’t. We want the Lafayette Hotel to be a place where you can be yourself, or reinvent yourself. That’s why it comes as no surprise when the Lafayette attracts thousands of travelers every year. Free spirits, the suits, global nomads, couples, families, and parties of one, they stay because we share common ground. The huge pool probably doesn’t hurt either.

    The Scene:
    The Lafayette Hotel Swim Club & Bungalows is a colonial style property located off of Historic Route 80 (El Cajon Boulevard). Built in 1946 our property has played host to some legendary parties with a celebrity guest list that includes Ava Gardner and Bob Hope. Our pool was even designed by Olympic swimmer Johnny Weissmuller in 1946. Known for our Yesterday|Today theme our guests find themselves in a balanced mix of historical references and modern amenities that really set us apart from the average hotel.  
    Design:
    Encompassing an entire city block the Lafayette is a historic building featuring plantation style architecture. Experience a touch of romance in our Conservatory with hanging parasols that cast soft, colorful lighting in the evening. Enjoy the oversized chess and checker boards in our outdoor West Courtyard. Party in our Grand Mississippi Ballroom with a built in dance floor and lighted shell stage where they filmed Top Gun scene 'You've lost that loving feeling'.
    Standout Venue Features:
    All guests of the Lafayette hotel are provided with complimentary wi-fi, access to the famed Weismuller pool, as well as life-size chess and checkerboards in the West Courtyard.

    The Mississippi Ballroom is our grand ballroom. The ballroom has played host to some of the most legendary San Diego parties. It is also where a certain maverick Top Gun pilot sang "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" to a lovely young lady. Seriously, Top Gun was filmed here. And yes, that IS a giant one of a kind clam shell behind the stage. A great backdrop for bands, toasts, or speakers, this unique event space adds a touch of glam to your wedding day!
