Venue Setting

The Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park is an outdoor stabilzied ruin of a former Victorian era girls' school. The building lived many lives after the school era, inlcuding a summer resort hotel for wealthy Baltimore residents, a private estate, and Maryland's first summer stock theatre. A period of vacancy in the 1950s and 1960s lead to its deterioration and today what remains is a stablized ruin. Robert Cary Long, Jr was the architect who designed the school and wanted to create the commanding presence of a Greek temple on the hill. Even in its current state, this sentiment holds true and creates a scenic and unique setting for your wedding or special event. The dramatic ruins are only limited by your imagination, as a blank canvas awaits your perfect day.

Venue Features
The Scene:
The Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park is situated on ten acres of land, surrounded by open spaces as well as landscaped gardens throughout the property. A breathtaking view of the Patapsco River valley can be seen from atop the granite steps. The historic ruins and the grounds are completely reserved for your use on your special day, so whether you prefer a garden party under the 150 year old trees with the dramatic ruins as your backdrop, or prefer to keep the celebration within the vast rooms inside the ruins, the choice is yours.
Design:
Our venue is a rare example of Greek Revival architecture in Howard County and the large granite steps that lead up to a portico and four grand Doric columns that once supported a roof is one of the most picturesque spots on site, though hardly the only. The building is stablized with blue metal beams that are visible througout the ruins and the interior walls are white. The basement level historic kitchen still boasts a nineteenth century fire place and hearth oven that serve to embellish the ambience of the room set up for a reception and dancing.
