Venue Features
The Scene:
An award-winning architectural landmark, the building was designed by Lake|Flato Architects as a private residence using steel recycled from the Alamo Cement Plant. The soaring indoor-outdoor spaces and surrounding Hill Country landscape make an indelibly inspiring first-impression and lasting impression.
Design:
The Plant at Kyle, a.k.a the Carraro Residence or the Alamo Cement Plant House, began life in the 1920s as a shed at the Alamo Cement plant in San Antonio, Texas (since re-purposed as the Alamo Quarry Market mall). Henry and Francine Carraro purchased the property in Kyle with plans to build a home utilizing a metal building they already owned. They started conversations with the newly launched firm of Lake | Flato Architects, led by David Lake and Ted Flato who met working for legendary Texas architect O'Neill Ford's firm Ford Powell & Carson.
Standout Venue Features:
There is nothing else quite like this unique and special property. Our associates (and surrogate hosts) Martha and Jamie Kinscherff live next door to The Plant at Kyle. They are both master naturalists who are delighted to give Texas Hill country nature walks (even right there on the property) and are also amateur astronomers and environmental sustainability experts. They are also there for any local area questions or maintenance issue that may arise.
Extra Perks:
Two-acre fenced in yard (great for kids and pets to run around).
Swimming pool (unheated).

Solange’s Music Video Was Filmed At This Rad Architecture Spot

The Plant at Kyle

Kyle, TX, United States

For those who haven’t scoped out Solange’s latest album drop, A Seat At The Table is arguably her best work to date. While the combination of cool spoken word and seriously badass beats makes the album shine, the music video for Cranes in The Sky is equally as rad. The video production squad landed hot and heavy in the little Hill Country town of Kyle, Texas during a deluge of August rain and captured Solange dancing in a modern steel structure with the tropical southern backdrop in all its lush glory. This rad architectural spot is none other than one of our favorite Texas venues, The Plant at Kyle.

Venue owner Mark Holzbach recently caught up with us about hosting the film production at his property and filled us in on a bit of behind-the-scenes action. He also has a few recommendations for anyone making the trek to Kyle.
