- The Scene:
- Experience life in another time. This authentically restored Colorado castle, located in the Crystal River Valley near Aspen and Glenwood Springs, Colorado, is breathtaking both indoors and out. It’s perfect for memory-making ceremonies and retreats. Colorado boutique hotel welcomes guests to rub elbows with the past in an unparalleled historical setting. As the former home of coal baron John Osgood, the Redstone Castle was once a bastion for business dealings and a place of entertainment for America’s ruling class Bedroom suites feature antiques from the era, colorful Italian-tiled fireplaces and cozy quilts. Each suite has an adjoining sitting room, ideal for private relaxation or for use as a staging area for bridal parties. En-suite bathrooms are commodious and showcase original fixtures with modern amenities and comforts.
Overnight guests have the exclusive opportunity to wander freely around and explore the castle. The Library with its green-tinted leather walls and metallic glazed ceiling; the Russian red dining room that once welcomed princes and presidents; the French-style Music Room, dominated by a spectacular diamond dust mirror; the masculine Game Room, where billiards, cards or roulette can still be played, are just a few of the Redstone Castle’s treasured places. Come morning, guests are invited to greet the day with a delicious breakfast served on the loggia, a sunny room that overlooks the castle grounds. The meal comes complete with mountain views, including snow-capped peaks, red rock cliffs and seasonal waterfalls. Herds of deer and elk are often seen grazing on the expansive lawn. As an event venue, many beautiful options exist for groups of up to 150 (outdoor) and 60(indoor) guests.
The two-story Great Room is an impressive indoor space ideal for elegant dinners and unique ceremonies. Outdoors, the spacious and secluded Castle Courtyard offers charming details, including a clock tower and an iron dragon sculpture, an original gift to Mr. Osgood. There are also eight other stunning outdoor locales that can accommodate larger groups and an accompanying event tent. - Design:
- Situated on a hillside, bordered by pine and aspen forests, the 150 acre-property includes a manicured lawn that gently slopes to the Crystal River. The Redstone Castle is regally authentic down to its bones—from its stone and English Tudor exterior to interior adornments that include priceless Tiffany & Co. light fixtures, William Morris wall coverings, Gustav Stickley wood paneling and the Osgood coat-of-arms intricately carved into the massive stone fireplace in the castle’s Great Room.
The current owners of the castle spent two years meticulously and methodically restoring the venerable structure. Every wall, ceiling and floor was touched. Historic restoration experts from Chicago were brought in to repair the frescoed ceiling in the Music Room as well as the calf-leather walls and glazed aluminum-leaf ceiling in the Library. The architectural details are all original including rift and quarter-sawn white oak floors, balloon ceilings and fireplaces. There are eight different colors of fireplace tiles in the suites, including hot pink and bright lavender, all selected by Mr. and Mrs. Osgood. The bedroom suites, along with period-correct furnishings, feature original light fixtures purchased from Louis Tiffany in 1902. - Standout Venue Features:
