Venue Setting

Tin Roof Barn is located amidst the rolling hills, apple orchards, and green pastures of the Columbia River Gorge in the Pacific Northwest. At over 100 years old, the barn has maintained its turn of the century authenticity and charm.  Rustic chandeliers, mismatch vintage wood dining tables and chairs, birdcages swaying gently in the trees, and butterflies dancing through the flowers are just a few of the sights to create a magical day at the barn.  Enjoy the warmth and glow from the massive stone fireplace, or cool down with a refreshing signature drink under the walnut trees. As the sun sets, dance under the stars and string lights while guests enjoy cozy after dinner conversations in the barn. Frogs from the nearby river will sing you on your way as you conclude the most magical day of your life!

Inside Scoop

It’s hard to describe this place until you’ve taken your shoes off and walked upon the soft dirt paths here.

There’s a natural sense of intimacy and family that old barns bring out in people – they feel connected to them somehow, even if they didn’t grow up on a farm, or in a rural community.

The Vigus family moved to the Columbia River Gorge from Kansas in 1909, in hopes of striking it rich during the agricultural boom that was taking place in the Northwest. The land was cleared by hand with neighbors pitching in to remove six foot wide fir trees, and the Tin Roof Barn was completed in 1915 after three years of labor. Their crops varied from alfalfa to strawberries to Christmas trees, and though the crops flourished, the boom was more of a bust. The family maintained their good spirits by joining in community gatherings that took place at the Husum Dance Hall located just a mile down the road. Families from all over the rural countryside would come to the hall to join with friends in dancing and to share homemade meals as well as catching up on all that was going on in their area. Refreshments were bootlegged in from The Dalles on boats that docked near Bingen, and then were loaded onto wagon teams who slogged through two feet of dust the nine miles to Husum. Morrel Vigus, one of the children who grew up on the farm, remembered that the drivers would “get all ‘beered’ up and let the horses bring ‘em back to the barn."

Following the ceremony, your guests will move to the vast courtyard of the barn, which is the perfect location for them to mingle while you are whisked away by your photographer to get some amazing magazine-worthy shots. The courtyard is framed by the bright green leaves of the walnut trees and looming hundred year old Firs that create an outdoor entertaining area for serving appetizers, trying out signature drinks, lounging in the sun, and of course, lawn games!

Moving from cocktail hour to the reception, your guests will enter the barn through the main 20 foot tall doors to the warm lighting of chandeliers hung from the rafters and vintage metal cage lights. The lounge area has tufted Chessington leather sofas and creates an intimate conversation area. There is also a wooden hutch and several tables for displaying your personal mementos, or to use as a place for goodies or beverages. The adjacent barn wood bar provides a fun and rustic atmosphere with intriguing wine barrel dispensers against a chalkboard wall. Tin Roof Barn

15 Birddog Road, White Salmon, WA, United States

This century-old barn sits in the rolling hills of the Columbia River Gorge. Surrounded by mountains, rivers, orchards and forests, the destination makes an amazing weekend getaway for nature lovers, wine tasting enthusiasts and fishermen alike. Set in the heart of it all, Tin Roof Barn is a wedding venue that’s family owned and operated, set up for weddings and events that suit up to 150 guests.

We recently caught up with Kelly, who not only owns the space but actually grew up on the property. Her passion and love for the land are undeniable, and we think you’ll enjoy the picture she paints of this rustic venue where no detail is overlooked. Check it out if you’re planning a spring, summer or fall fête.
