Venue Setting

Set in East Bali overlooking the vast sweep of Lombok Strait, Amankila (‘peaceful hill’) is a cliff-side beach resort. Thirty-four suites enjoy spectacular sea and coastal views and connect by elevated walkways to the main facilities. Centring the resort, a three-tiered swimming pool mirrors Bali’s overlapping rice terraces. At the base of the cliff, the Beach Club is set within a grove of mature coconut palms and features a 41 metre lap pool and restaurant for light lunches. Water sports equipment and boats are on hand for cruising or snorkelling trips. Eight private lounging bales are set along the beach and fitted with a daybed and oversized bolsters. Traditional Balinese massage is available at the Beach Club, in guests’ suites or in the massage pavilion. Each suite features a large bedroom with wide window views, a canopied king-size bed and writing desk. The divided bathroom contains a window-side divan, a soaking tub and separate shower and toilet rooms, giving way to facing coconut-shell dressing areas and double terrazzo vanities. Outdoor terraces have a daybed, coconut shell table and rattan chairs. Amankila offers nine pool suite options. Some of Bali’s best touring and hiking excursions can be arranged through the resort.

The Scene:
Mount Agung provides a dramatic backdrop for Amankila (peaceful hill), a secluded seaside resort overlooking the Lombok Strait. Spacious stilted villas offer exceptional views from their hillside locations amongst frangipani and bougainvillea, and are connected to the resort’s facilities by raised walkways. Guests can relax around the signature three-tiered pool or at the Beach Club on Amankila’s beach. What separates Amankila from other luxury Bali resorts is that it is situated in Karangasem, one of Bali’s most traditional regencies, Amankila also offers easy access to untouched rural countryside, local crafts and the region’s royal past.
Design:
Perched on a cliff side overlooking the Lombok Strait, Amankila is a haven of tranquility. Chic and understated, it draws on the traditional architecture of the region, and is possibly one of the most romantic destinations in Bali.

Delicate white pennants line a path leading to a bamboo arch decorated with young coconut leaves. Flowers and delicate drapes of white fabric create a magical and romantic atmosphere at an Amankila Balinese wedding. Frangipani, tuberoses, white orchids, chrysanthemums and gardenia adorn the dinner tables, whilst a Balinese traditional dance is performed to a gamelan orchestra. At Amankila we do not use the word detox but encourage a gentle and mindful way of nourishing your body and soul. Should you wish to indulge in a beautiful glass of wine or our especially made spa chocolate – please do. All our menus are marked with (ME) for especially designed options or we can select a personal menu for your stay depending on your requirements. The choice is yours. Amankila works with our neighbouring farmers and producers for only the freshest ingredients. We know exactly where our produce comes from and what they are feed.
