Just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park and set to a backdrop of the wild Welsh countryside, this converted cowshed is a true rural retreat. The building's former life is still honoured with original oaks beams and flagstone floors, though luxury upgrades like a roll-top bath in the master bedroom, a log-burner in the living area and underfloor heating ensure this is a comfy, modern stay. We loved the personal touches, too, like the extensive book collection, board games and complimentary tea and coffee. Large enough for two couples or a family to enjoy, this home has a roomy living-kitchen area, where big meals can be cooked and shared around the communal dining table. When the sun is shining, head out onto the deck for alfresco drinks or to plan your hiking route for the day, admiring the panoramic views towards Pen y Fan and the Beacons. There are plenty of walking routes that everyone, including pups, will enjoy, but it's only a short drive to the Brecon Beacons National Park – or for the thirsty hiker, just under a mile to the nearest pub.
