Venue Setting

A sanctuary of a space. Art Tribes, a collective and event venue, offers this sense of heightened experience. Here, you will encounter a space that is, essentially, a form of expression. A blank page, waiting for your story. Whether it's a welcome party or reception, a workshop or meeting; a holy moment or essentially practical need, our space can play the hostess. It's not that our aesthetic isn't distinctive; it is, and there’s a spirit to this place that can only be called Art Tribes-esque. But when we designed the physical space, we were connected with the space of the human heart. We knew that so many different occasions would be honored here, so many gatherings and spontaneous unfoldings, each with their separate needs. So, mindful of others and of the stories they would want to tell, we crafted a gracious space. Art Tribes, with its bright and balanced design and energy, is able to hold and at times enhance the beauty of a thousand different moments and perspectives. You see, when we felt satisfied with our work, we left just enough room for the intangible. The spark. The magic. The moment when an event becomes so much more-- a peg to hang a memory on ("remember your rehearsal dinner, where we sat along those long tables and watched the snow fall from inside? That was night was surreal..."). We have abandoned the idea of pre-made design and imposing taste and have, instead, opened our doors and our hearts to others. We have become what we dared to imagined: a storybook of a space. With that being said, we love (when the occasion calls for it) to share our creative offerings with our community. To put on a workshop, market, or to offer a curated event that has Art Tribes written all over it. These are a gesture from our hearts, from deep within our storytelling space and souls. The studio comes alive on market days, when many makers meet at Art Tribes with the shared aim of growing individual business. We love these moments, when the space takes on the artistry and energy of each individual maker. The studio becomes, during those market gatherings, a kind of wardrobe or treasure chest that spills over with marvels, curiosities, plants, and pastry. Bits and threads and wares that are so much more—these things are a reflection and expression of the heart and hands that gave them life. A created thing that manifests the spirit of the creator, and the joys of a collaborative space and experience. At last, our on-site flower market & atelier, The Daisy Chain, brims with love and beautiful, blooming touches. McKenzie O'Grady’s lifelong commitment to and love of flowers (and all expressions of beauty) is nowhere more romantically confirmed than in her signature Daisy Chain designs. Hers are flowers with a bit of enchantment, a spritely charm. There’s nothing complicated about it, these flowers. They’re as simple and essential as falling in love. We encourage you to stop by a pick up a sprig of herbs, plan a beautiful event, or attend a market or workshop day. Perhaps you’d just like to say 'hello,' and experience our space. That’s fine too; we’d love to offer you a cup of coffee or kindness and hear (perchance to tell) your story. We hope you’ll find that anything hosted here, however formal or informal, unfolds with quietude, care, and grace. With a commitment to both the beautiful and refined telling of the story—the authorial and designerly touch—and the persons within that story. A revelation.

Inside Scoop

Be sure and look closely when you receive McKenzie's gift of miniature blooms. There's a little heart nestled in the middle of every arrangement. If there's a flower that you especially love, or that plays a particularly beloved part of your experience, give McKenzie notice. She she'll special order or forage just for you. Venue Features
The Scene:
Art Tribes, with its mysterious fusion of elegance and spunk, is a captivating space for any event. The lighting is warm and rich, the space open and flowing. Cozy nooks encourage mingling and gathering, and long tables serve as the perfect canvas for meetings, workshops, a most elegant feast. The glassware is majorly pretty, featuring white bone china and crystal in its pure and colored state. And the materials we've utilized throughout the space are rich and good: pine, glass tile, wood, all of the finest quality and prettiest hue. Our disciplined and at times unpredictable style makes the space a surprise and delight to all. After all, minimalism is good, to a certain extent, but who hates to fall in love? Certainly not us, and it's in that spirit that we've left a trail of design-love tokens. A diamond marquee sign, a little bonsai, and several instances of mantra. An embarrassment of floral riches, courtesy of our on-site flower market. You may be hard-pressed to define our little space-- it's a bit zen, in some places industrial, purely pretty, and certainly enchanting. But whatever it is, it's got the touch. Spunk. Spirit. Joie de vivre. Come catch a little Art Tribes magic, why don't you now?
Design:
Art Tribes is a space brimming with energy, elegance, and élan. Our studio combines masculine touches, like the brick from a 1939 historic home, with feminine intuition and appeal-- a pale pink desk and abundance of flowers. Long pine tables encourage gathering and feasting (whether on the bounty of a great meal or creative workshop). A bar is great for wi-fi and meetings or simple a rich, handcrafted cuppa (Evocation coffee, that is; thanks, guys!). A cooler full of garden roses, lush foliage, and every conceivable flower in between bids you to come and forage. And oh, the details spill out and over-the-top from there... chalkboards for writing and welcoming... Scandinavian hand-painted pieces for flowering in ... Woodworking pieces to admire or take home... Edison bulbs for hosting an event with extra-great lighting, or perhaps for falling in love under (and why on earth not).
Standout Venue Features:
Our on-site flower market & atelier is handcrafted with such love and care, and McKenzie delights in concocting pieces for both everyday and event needs. We are always filling our calendars with radiant and illuminating workshop offerings-- woodworking classes, coffee cupping Saturdays, wreath-making workshops, and flower potlucks, oh my! And, beginning late Summer 2014, every Thursday through Saturday, Art Tribes comes alive with the vitality of a maker's market. The studio will display the creativity and wares of many makers, our local and long-distance friends. Expect beautiful vessels, fair trade tokens, Mayan handbags and turbans, beads and jewels in many colors, stones, and finishes. As you browse, savor handcrafted coffee and pastry to- die- for, to- sigh -for, to wear polyester-rayon-jersey-viscose blends ("stretchy clothes") expressly in honor of.
Extra Perks:
Our white pine tables, coastal gray bar, kitchenette, and many mingling spaces are all a part of the glorious package that is your standard rental fee. Oh, and for the mocha-colored velvet ribbon on top of that package-- wi-fi access and a projector for any video, DVD, or memories you'd like to screen and share (moody one-liners and popcorn kisses not included). For a small fee (we're talking $25 small), you may also use anything in our china and glassware collection, including stemless champagne flutes, crystal-encrusted champagne buckets, cake stands, cutlery, flatware, pastel dessert goblets, glasses, and crystal coffee cups. Evocation Coffee privately, to college campuses and vendors across the company, and roasts especially for and forms an integral part of Palace Coffee, voted America's best coffee shop. We at Art Tribes proudly (so proudly) brew their coffee as well, and you'll love that you get to experience a near endless supply of it at your event for only $15. We might note that the acoustics of this space are divine; music, whether playing from an iPod or live band, fills Art Tribes with haunting grace. At last, McKenzie's floral designs and curatorial services add something quite special to any event, and she is oh-so-happy to add these a la carte to your rental fee.
Eats & Drinks
Food, Restaurants, Cafes, Bars & Lounges
Food, Restaurants, Cafes:
Evocation Coffee brews for America's best coffee house, Palace Coffee, along with many other notable campuses and vendors. Art Tribes is honored to be among these, and we offer you as many cups of kindness and Colombian (and San Rafael-ian... and Ethiopian... and Costa Rican... ) coffee as you please. Just stop by the pour-over espresso bar, conduct your three-minute coffee meditation/preparation, and give into that beautiful buzz.
