Venue Setting

Chef Ericka Burke's Chop Shop Cafe & Bar is housed in a mixed-use project in the heart of Seattle's bustling Capitol Hill neighborhood. The building is a beautiful mix of old and new, with the original façade preserved and updated with a bank of new windows at street level and the original wooden windows above. The 2,800 square-foot restaurant has a large communal table at the center of the dining room, with additional seats at a chef counter, along the front windows, and at the bar, as well as at smaller tables tucked around the space. The highlight of the bar is a re-purposed entryway from the century-old Williamsburg Court building, which adds a feminine touch to the surrounding metal beams and rough woods. Additionally, warm maple wood, swaths of botanical wallpaper, mirrors, and tile all come together to create an intimate experience within the large space.

Overlooking Chop Shop is a beautiful private mezzanine complete with a big communal table, cozy vintage furniture, warm lighting, and a view of the kitchen and dining room. A pull-down screen and projector make it possible to play slideshows or host meeting upstairs, too.

Venue Features
The Scene:
The restuarant is a large, open space, broken up into cozier seating areas with tables and floral arrangements. The open kitchen adds action to the space, as does the bar. An alley of sorts runs between the buildings, and becomes extra outdoor seating under twinkling lights in the summer.
Design:
The bar back is a century-old entryway from a beautiful old apartment building, updated with creamy blue and white.

A large table in the center of the restaurant anchors the space, and a large frame hangs abve it, providing lighting and sometimes floral additions as well.

Rougher industrial elements--wood and steel, reminders of the building's history as an auto shop--are softened with spashes of blue and green, playful botanical wallpaper, and vintage cooking implements hung on the wall by the kitchen.

Up on the mezzanine, modern and old-style elements mix together beautifully. Baroque-style vases sit on top of a dresser from the early 1900's; a mod bookcase holds an array of cookbooks and treasures. A long table is set to match the host's style, with linens and flowers.
Standout Venue Features:
A lovely outdoor patio is situated right behind the building, and there is outdoor seating along the side of the building as well. It feels like a beautiful haven in the midst of a busy, vibrant urban area.
Eats & Drinks
Food, Restaurants, Cafes, Bars & Lounges
Food, Restaurants, Cafes:
Chop Shop's menu showcases the best produce and proteins available, combined in winning dishes that often utilize the products from the juice bar. Brunch offerings range from savory (brisket & eggs) to sweet (mascarpone French toast with candied witer squash.) Lunch brings an array of salads and sandwiches, and the dinner menu has small plates, seasonal mains, and the "Big Bone" section: a handful of larger proteins made for sharing (think a whole grilled fish or a braised veal shank) that come with vegetable sides like braised fennel of roasted romanesco. In the summer, lush local produce abounds on the menu, in composed salads and clever dishes. Cocktails often incorporate juice from the juice bar--especially the delicious brunch cocktails like the "Hair of the Goat" with locally made vodka, cucmber-celery-cilantro juice, ginger beer made right down the street, and house-made orange bitters.
Bars & Lounges:
The bar has a thoughtful lineup of local and imported beers, a large wine selection, and an array of fun cocktails--as well as a full bar. Many of the cocktails names are plays on bands or songs, as a nod to the space's history as a rehersal space for Seattle groups. A couple standouts are the "Beet Happening" with reposado tequila, mezcal, a beet shrub, and warm spices and the "Built to Spill" with Citizen Gin and grapefruit East India Tonic.
