Inside Scoop

Let us tell you what we are not, in case you have your heart set on a cookie-cutter place or a square banquet hall. That is not us. If you are looking for a property with a loving heart and joyous spirit that has been celebrating happy occasions, one wedding at a time, for 130 years, the historic Deerfield Inn might be the place for you. We make all our own infusions for the most fab drinks, we honor and support our area growers and producers so the food cannot be much fresher; we slice, dice, and make everything from scratch; and we have three bright and sweet spots for your special day.

Venue Features
The Scene:
What rocks you back on your heels when you discover the mile-long, tree-lined Old Main Street of Deerfield in this most rural part of Massachusetts lined by gorgeous homes from the 18th- and 19th-century, two schools, and three working farms, is the way this heart of colonial America seems to have risen from the surrounding landscape of cornfields, rivers, and hills. The sense of place, of the impact of the continuum of our past into the present, is imbued in every flagstone, every brick, every clapboard building, and the 1774 liberty pole with its flag of freedom. This is the best documented small town in America, and the only National Historic Landmark Village in the US. Our 1884 Federal building has two porches in front and four handsome pillars supporting the facade. Come and see our inn and this village, and you will be charmed! There is nothing like it anywhere else - an original historic inn in an original, unspoiled New England village.
Design:
Our guestrooms are all individual and comfortable and pleasing with eco-friendly amenities and antiques or period reproductions, but with all the mod cons such as tvs, guest Keurigs, and free Wi-fi. The main inn (1884) has eleven rooms and the connecting carriage house (1882) has thirteen. Our corridors and rooms slope and dip a bit, as we all tend to do when we get older, and the front door and wobbly glass-paned 12-over-12 windows are over a century old. We have period reproduction wallpapers, comfy reading chairs, cozy nooks for relaxing, and the whole property exudes warmth, happiness, and the sense of coming home.
Standout Venue Features:
We make all our own infusions so our cocktails are blissful concoctions or purity and originality. We have twelve beers on draught and a stunning array of bottled beers, and wine by the glass. We are known for elopements and re-commitments, and celebrate one special day at a time with your party planner- on site with you from beginning to end.
Extra Perks:
We provide ivory linens and simple bud vases free of charge. Colored linens are included with our wedding packages. All house tables, chairs and place serttings can be used for indoor or patio events. We have a list of excellent vendors who have provided exemplary service over the years, but we do not oblige you to go with any one person, and we do not mark up their services or rentals.
Awards & Notables We were Yankee Magazine's Best 19th-century inn in 2014. We also were one of the top 20 boutique inns as chosen by TripAdvisor in 2017.  We have been in so many major newspapers and blogs and appeared on tv so often that we can't list them all - but google us and we are there - in family blogs, travel blogs, what to see before you die blogs, the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Hartford Courant, and in newspapers and magazines overseas from Japan to Germany.

Eats & Drinks
Food, Restaurants, Cafes, Bars & Lounges
Food, Restaurants, Cafes:
Champney’s Restaurant & Tavern at the Deerfield Inn provides guests a comfortable place for a quick bite and a beer or a romantic dinner.  Champney’s has gas fireplaces, and the Tavern has a 20-seat mahogany dining bar, cozy booths, and a small comfy area for cocktails or cappuccinos while you wait for others who are joining you. Our byline is "Gather at a New England Table" and that is what folks do. A happy and pleasing place with farm-to-fork fare, because we feel if we do not support and respect our farmers and the rural landscape, this piece of the Happy Valley could be gone forever.  We serve lunch and dinner 7 days a week.  The menu includes a variety, from juicy burgers with crispy Belgian fries to the perfectly seared salmon for dinner.  Please view our current menus at www.champneysrestaurant.com.
Bars & Lounges:
