Camp, Cabin Culture & Lodges: The Upstate New York Guide to the Best Spots for Group Trips & Gatherings
Pack your bags, coolers, and camp gear. We’re headed to Upstate New York, where the air is fresh, the pools are lined with pine trees, and roughing it means retreating to a luxury cabin with clawfoot tubs, canopy beds, and Aesop. The cabins and lodges here were once humble summer camps and ski inns, but today they’ve been reborn with Frette sheets, chef-led restaurants, and design details that make even a rainy weekend feel like an editorial spread. For our Camp VR series; a look at the stylish side of cabin culture, lakefront lounging, and campfire retreats, spotlighting the Catskills is essential. The region captures both the sentimentality of childhood camping trips and the timeless elegance of celebrating in nature: wedding weekends backed by the mountain ridge, fireside birthday dinners, or corporate off-sites that swap sterile ballrooms for waterfalls and trail mix.  In other words, the Catskills is exemplary of the charm, nostalgia, and style that Camp VR celebrates, which is why we’ve rounded up our absolute favorite camp-adjacent hotels and lodges across Upstate New York.

Bunk, Feast, Repeat: A Field Guide to Camp-Inspired Event Venues Across the U.S.
From tartan-lined lodges to glamping tents with martini carts, these aren’t just places to crash, they’re places to convene. Heritage plaid, canvas, wood smoke and a little Champagne sparkle, because camp can be both rugged and refined. If Camp VR were a weekend escape, this would be the map. Picture bunk beds turned boutique, bonfires turned dinner parties, and cabins styled with the kind of quiet luxury that feels half Martha Stewart cottage, half Ralph Lauren catalog. The menu? Wood-fired paella, grown-up s’mores, and a bourbon cider punch bowl that deserves its own merit badge.  These venues aren’t just made for sleeping, they’re also made for gathering. Lakeside lodges that double as wedding backdrops, glamping estates with long tables set in the fields, and cozy cottages ready for birthday feasts or fall reunions. It’s fisherman-core meets fine china, enamel mugs clinking beside crystal stemware. Explore The Camp VR collection on Venue Report: search, save, and message real venues built for bunking up, feasting well, and gathering under the same roof (or sky). Because campfires fade, but the stories? Those last all season. Read the field guide below.

Martini Trolleys, Guitar Deliveries, Caviar Carts: 14 Hotels Turning Room Service Into the Ultimate Friends’ Night In
Bid adieu to that boring ol’ room service club sandwich. Today’s luxury and chic boutique hotels are serving Home Alone style sundae kits. Yes, the exact nostalgic, over-the-top ice cream situation Kevin McCallister built in his bathrobe, can be brought right to your room, alongside caviar carts and martini trolleys. We’re talking on-call mixology masters, bath butlers, and some hotels even send up sunrise breakfast baskets or deliver a guitar to your door so someone can play campfire songs from the comfort of your bed. These setups are made for the travel moments when you’d rather stay in, slip into matching robes, and turn the evening into a grown-up sleepover with champagne, face masks, and a movie playing in the background.  And after a day of touring a new town with friends, sometimes the dreamiest plan is no plan at all. Just everyone piled into the room, relaxing, catching up and letting room service do the entertaining. Bookmark this guide for a vacation with friends hat involves caviar, champagne, celebrity-level skincare and maybe a visit from Santa. By Pallavi Mehra
