A twenty-minute walk inland from Carmel Beach, this rustic cottage feels surprisingly more like a woodland retreat than a seaside sanctuary. As you stroll up to the quaint front door, flanked by ferns and rhododendrons, stepping into the main living space is a delightful way to enter the home. Chunky wooden furnishings and plush, sand-coloured sofas are illuminated by a huge bay window in the day, and by a log-burning fireplace at night. As you dine under a deer-antler chandelier next to wooden beams, the home feels like a luxury version of a hunter’s cabin. We love the sliding doors leading out to the decked terrace in the middle of the home. This charming outdoor space continues the woodland theme with its warming firepit and traditional wooden loungers. We recommend getting some venison steak for the outside grill (from a nearby deli, not freshly hunted). Pair it with some fantastic local red wine – the host offers you complimentary tickets to a wine tasting downtown when you arrive, so you’ll already know about the best vintages. If you want to head into town, bustling Ocean Avenue is an easy thirteen-minute walk. Find cafés, restaurants, and plenty more wine tastings en route.
