Between Nimes and Avignon, near the Alpilles, the Camargue and the Cévennes, close to the iconic Pont du Gard and the first duchy of France (Uzès), the Renaissance village of Castillon du Gard overlooks the valley of the Gardon.

The Pont du Gard is a remnant of the famous Roman aqueduct that was built under Emperor Claudius around 50 AD. The aqueduct was built to meet the urban expansion of Nîmes (Nemausus), an important city of the region, and its water needs. The latter was taken from the source of the Euro in Uzès, and came pouring into the ducts of Castellum Divisarium (water tower) to Nîmes. The site is complemented by a museum, a playground for children, and a trail.

Le Vieux Castillon is also a partner of the prestigious Golf Club of Nîmes Campagne (18-holes on the outskirts of Nîmes).

From the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Wine to the Costières de Nimes, from the vineyards of Gigondas to those of Tavel and Lirac, the region offers 1000 attractive routes for wine lovers.
