Venue Features

The scene:: The monumental complex of Masseria D'Erchia (XI-XIX), inserted in twelve hectares of "park of the plain of secular olive trees", is located in the Municipality of Monopoli (BA) a few steps from the sea and the city center. The first settlements of Masseria D'Erchia are among the most important examples of the rock civilization that developed in Puglia between the 9th and 12th centuries. The rupestrian settlements stood near streams of torrential origin, called "lame" or "mene", and were generally made up of an organic complex of caves, each used for a specific purpose (homes, workplaces, churches).

Subsequently, in the 16th century, in the upper north part of the Lama Don Angelo, the original nucleus was built by the local population, consisting of a watchtower for defense against Saracen raids. The original tower was subsequently enlarged in 1875 by the D'Erchia family to reach its current size.

Today the Masseria, finely restored, features large and comfortable original spaces, in a familiar and welcoming atmosphere. The park of centuries-old olive trees and the gardens respect a real vocabulary of memories with native and ancient varieties belonging to the places for centuries.
Design:: The Masseria, today bound by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, is the result of a coherent restoration that respects natural materials and natural finishes. The colors recall those belonging to the surrounding nature in a continuous exchange between interiors and exteriors. Even the finishes of the pool respect natural colors and materials that have already been used for thousands of years.
