Located on a gravel road dating back to the times when monks settled at the foot of Mount Etna, the intimate 18th-century nobiliary house ‘Monaci delle Terre Nere’ is a magic and serene place with wonderful scents and colours – sitting amidst an organic farm overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Monaci delle Terre Nere is a place where traditional Sicilian Architecture is combined with contemporary art and living. It is a place you can completely relax and unwind, there are no televisions or telephones in the rooms.

The identity of Monaci delle Terre Nere is revealed by the organic farm: amidst 16 hectars of olive groves, citrus trees and vineyards, the land is cultivated and it yields fruits and vegetables which are the elements of the healthy and high-quality cuisine of the restaurant. Settled amongst the citrus trees, the infinity pool looks down onto the glittering Mediterranean Sea in the distance.

The Scene:
Monaci Delle Terre Nere has been built with the features of a unique boutique hotel, surrounded by a Sicilian estate at the slopes of Mt. Etna, the biggest active volcano of Europe. It has the soul of a discreet and unpretentious hideaway, far from the hurly burly of urban life, in a place of special energy.

The Relais has 19 rooms which are located throughout the main building, a noble dwelling of the 19th century, and the scattered Suites, surrounded by the organic farm. It has the charm of a design hotel, where the original features of the building are merged with contemporary art.

Design:
Each of the 19 rooms and Suites are filled with light and tastefully decorated and designed with glass, wood and stone. All have a modern twist; some have original frescoes on the ceiling, others with open fireplaces and designer free-standing baths. There is a real feeling of space in all of the rooms whichever one you choose to book and plenty of personal touches and attention to detail to really make you feel welcome and looked after.
All the property, from the Reception hall to the rooms has featured with Italian best design, linking the Sicilian antique tradition.
