The Lowdown Venue Setting
Cocooned in luxury, adrift in your own 4-bedroom oceanfront home within one of Africa’s most beautiful coastal reserves: the 36 000-ha De Hoop Nature Reserve. De Hoop offers 51km of pristine white beaches and dunes lapped by a warm Indian ocean, as well as limestone cliffs, rock pools, wetlands, coastal fynbos and the reserve is home to more than 260 species of birds. Ocean House offers a bird’s eye view of the continent’s greatest whale nursery, as Southern Right whales migrate to the shallow coastal basins off the Overberg Coast for the calving and nursing season from mid-July to November. In short, Morukuru Family offers access to some of the continent’s most undiscovered gems, able to satisfy visitors’ craving exclusivity, yet providing some of the most productive wildlife interactions in Southern Africa. Morukuru Ocean House can accommodate 8 adults & 4 children (all ages are welcome!). The 4 double suites all have their own en suite bathrooms and glass doors overlooking the ocean. The interior design is inspired by the surrounding fynbos dunes and is of the highest quality. Morukuru Ocean House includes the same features as those you will find at our private houses situated within the Madikwe Game Reserve: amazing views, top service, a wide range of activities from guided marine walks and mountain-biking to sandboarding and of course 100% privacy. Amenities A/V Equipment Wifi Ample Parking Onsite Dining Chairs Dining Tables Onsite Restrooms Venue Features The Scene: Morukuru Ocean House is situated inside De Hoop Nature Reserve, a mere 5-10 minutes walk from several beaches. The house offers panoramic views of the Indian Ocean in front, as well as of the surrounding Fynbos vegetation. De Hoop Nature Reserve offers 51 km of pristine beaches and dunes, as well as limestone cliffs, rock pools, wetlands and the coastal Fynbos. Design: The house was designed using the surrounding nature as the main source of inspiration. The thick walls are made from local stone and the double glazed windows offer perfect insulation. Several striking interior elements have been specifically designed for Morukuru Ocean House. The bar/lounge area on the top floor offers a 360-degree view, thanks to sliding glass walls all around. The house is powered entirely by solar energy, the battery bank directing power where needed. Oven heat from the wood-fired ‘Esse’ stove in the kitchen is recycled to supply heat for the underfloor heating and provide hot water for the showers. The stove utilises wood from the clearing of alien vegetation after which indigenous vegetation is re-established. State-of-the-art grey water systems essentially eliminate wastewater issues. The ‘green story’ started when we decided to build the house. We took cuttings from all the plants that had to be moved and cultivated those cuttings in a greenhouse. Standout Venue Features: What really sets Morukuru Ocean House apart is the fantastic and private location on the beach in De Hoop Nature Reserve, with endless views of the Indian Ocean and the whales (June-October) from anywhere in or around the house.
