Inside Scoop

Front man, general manager & co-owner Anthony Schmidt has created one of the only, if not the only, schnaps bars in the U.S. designed to highlight true schnaps (a.k.a. eau de vie), a pure, crystal clear brandy made from fruit.

Venue Features
The Scene:
Located in San Diego’s historic Simon Levi building in the heart of East Village this handsome deli-meets-bar also shares a Petco Park-adjacent address with a Stone Brewing Tap Room. Influenced by cultures famed for iconic delicatessen traditions – Jewish, German, Italian and French – Rare Form transports you into the world of a modern-day European deli inside its 2,700 square-foot space.
Design:
Plush leather banquet seating, subway tile, marble tabletops and warm aged wooden chairs set the scene at this stylish East Village deli; added accents include banker’s lamps, Baroque-style paintings and subtle religious undertones throughout.
Standout Venue Features:
Front man, general manager & co-owner Anthony Schmidt has crafted a concise cocktail menu that revolves around cordials, eau de vie and fruit brandies. Alongside nine featured schnapps cocktails, Rare Form also offers 12 draft beers, a selection of wines and three different boilermakers – an old-school classic which pairs a shot of schnapps alongside a draft beer chaser.
Awards & Notables Anthony Schmidt: Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards Craft & Commerce (2012) and Noble Experiment (2014).
