Winter gets a bad rap, often referred to as cruel or harsh. This is very confusing. Have these people never had a snowball fight or enjoyed hot cocoa? Have these naysayers never skied, snowboarded, or snowmobiled? Sure, the coldest season of the year blankets the earth in powder, but isn’t that annual alien landscape an exciting thing to explore, not to mention extraordinarily picturesque? Winter is about totally new experiences, and you need to get in on the fun. When it comes to places to stay and things to do in the snowy season, we’ve got you covered.

For a lot of us, there is something deeply sentimental, and maybe even terribly romantic about watching a movie outdoors. Where does this come from? Maybe from a recollection of a family movie night in the backyard, snuggled warmly under blankets covered in popcorn – or from the gone-by memory of a drive-in necking session with a former sweetheart. Whatever the reason, we think an outdoor movie is just a pretty darn novel idea. It's like going to the movies and camping at the same time – and at the end of the night, your shoes won't get stuck to floors sticky with spilled soda and candy, and nobody has to sleep on the ground. It really is the best of both worlds. We have found 30 places from all over the world that have taken this notion to heart and put some unique spins on the open air cinema experience. They have really tickled our nostalgia bones, so be prepared for some warm and fuzzies.

New Year’s Eve is one of our favorite holidays here at the Venue Report. Why? Because it’s celebrated by nearly every culture around the world. In Iceland, people burn big community bonfires to get rid of the past year’s bad juju. In South Africa, people parade through the streets in costume. In Newfoundland, people share poetry over a gunfire salute. And in Miami, well, in Miami people party like rage machines.
We’ve covered all your New Year’s celebration possibilities, from California glamping to luxury hotel stays in the Maldives, from African safari adventures to late-night parties in Los Angeles. If you can't make it this year, save these for your dream gatherings and getaways for next year! So, here’s to a brilliant 2016, filled with more opportunities to travel, gather and explore!
