Venue Features
The scene:
Nestled at the base of Camelback Mountain on 250 acres in Scottsdale, Arizona, The Phoenician is an iconic luxury resort destination well known for its AAA Five Diamond service. Signature offerings include the recently enhanced, multi-tiered Phoenician Pools, which also showcase a lower level hand-laid in Mother of Pearl tile. Exquisite culinary offerings, as well as the new Phoenician Spa and Phoenician Athletic Club -- both debuting in Spring 2018 -- further define the guest experience. A variety of venues across more than 160,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting/event space cater to any special occassion - from a picturesque wedding ceremony overlooking the Orchid Falls, to an elegant gala affair in The Phoenician Grand Ballroom.
Design:
Unveiling a fresh, contemporary luxury throughout, the AAA Five Diamond Phoenician presents personalized experiences that are rare and memorable by design. The result of the most massive renovation undertaken since the property opened in October 1988, the resort has transformed itself, introducing a diverse collection of offerings that honor both guest and destination. In fall 2017, a refurbished main lobby, Thirsty Camel Lounge, Afternoon Tea Room, retail space, and pool complex with both reserved seating and children’s area, debuted. The Marketplace, a European-inspired café, and Mowry & Cotton, a lively, approachable venue featuring Modern American cuisine, also premiered, joining signature restaurants J&G Steakhouse and Relish Burger Bistro. Yet to come in Spring 2018 is the new three-story Phoenician Spa, featuring a rooftop pool and Drybar; The Phoenician Athletic Club, with tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, as well as a state-of-the-art fitness center; and a completely redesigned and rerouted 18-hole golf course. Complementing it all is the extensive remodel of all resort casitas and guestrooms, as well as the makeover of The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician – the only Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamond hotel in the greater Phoenix area – which took place in summer 2016.

Standout venue features:

Jokake Inn: In the early 1900s, painter Jessie Benton Evans presented her son and daughter in-law with 12 acres of land that she had purchased at the base of Camelback Mountain. The couple built a unique adobe house on the land in 1926, expanding it over the years to accommodate visitors for tea, and eventually, overnight guests.

The house was given its name by a young Hopi Indian boy who saw the structure and called it “Jokake,” which means “mud house.” Today, Jokake Inn stands just inside the grounds of The Phoenician as a symbol of the hospitality of the old Southwest. Upon entrance to the expansive 250-acre Phoenician property, guests will be greeted by this historic adobe building on the left, surrounded by shady palms, charming cacti and colorful fauna.

Orchid Lawn: Envision your special day amid an elegant garden setting, full of lush greenery and enchanting florals. Overlooking the Orchid Falls and a babbling brook, the Orchid Lawn exudes a radiant atmopshere in tropical surroundings.

Camelback Mountain: The Phoenician offers an extraordinary experience with majestic Camelback Mountain as its backdrop. Guided hikes are available seasonally, providing breathtaking, panoramic views of the resort and surrounding Valley of the Sun.

Cactus Garden: Whether taking a leisurely stroll or a guided tour, the Cactus Garden provides guests with an intimate look at the Sonoran Desert, showcasing 250 varieties of cactus, and numerous indigenous residents.

Extra perks:
House Equipment Includes:

- Standard Banquet Chairs

Tennis Is Back—and It’s the Group Trip Idea of the Year: 53 Resorts with Style, Serves, and Poolside Scenes
The new vacation sweet spot? Designer courts, dreamy pools, and room for the whole group. Game, set, a match made in heaven—featuring the most stunning tennis spots around the world, paired with group-friendly fun like raw bars, plush cabanas, and parties that feel like Miami Vice meets The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. A summer of friendship, forehands, and cabana-side catch-ups? Just like the good old days (only now we book the resort). In 2025, activity-based travel is spiking. Family and friend groups aren’t just looking for a beach and a beach read, they’re booking doubles matches, chasing waterfalls, and making movement part of the memory.  Tennis is having a moment—and no, we’re not just talking about Miu Miu miniskirts (though they deserve a trophy). Racquets and retro country club culture, are having a renaissance. Not just in sport, but in fashion, travel, and the way we gather. With Challengers fueling fresh enthusiasm for the game, luxury resorts are responding by transforming their courts into destinations for world-class tournaments, exclusive events, and high-profile collaborations. Giorgio Armani and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts have set the standard with a global tennis series featuring icons like Venus Williams and Juan Martín del Potro, while Miu Miu Tennis Club has turned locations in New York City and Saint-Tropez into stylish hubs of sport and society. You’re officially invited to the Venue Report Sportsclub – Game, Set, Match Edition. We've found 53 venues where tennis whites are practically a dress code, pickleball is a social event, and golf comes with a side of vintage visors These are the places where backhands meet beach clubs, and cabana service follows the final set. Of course, the courts are just the beginning. We’re also serving up ideas for how to turn every post-game hang into an unforgettable group gathering. Think: retro racquet club vibes, post-match martini hours, and fun ideas that make every group hang feel like a scene from an old-school summer movie. 🎶✨Want to be all the way tuned in? We created a playlist that perfectly accompanies everything from poolside gossip, heated doubles matches, and late lunches at the country club that turn into party crashing. The BPM is set to the rhythm of a hard serve, scuffs on clay courts, slamming racquets. It's a Sports Club confection.
