Lucky lady Pina Hernandez recently threw her 40th birthday bash in Mexico at Flora Farms and had her dear friends at Ana & Jerome Photography capture the jubilant affair. Embracing the “happiness” she feels at this point in her life, Pina designed the event with bright, festive colors and loads of texture.
Nothing says celebration quite like strolling through Flora Farms gardens, sipping on hibiscus margaritas and noshing on a family style meal with your nearest and dearest. This bohemian garden party at the Mango Grove Barn at Flora Farms has us yearning for reasons to throw a fiesta!
For about a decade now, Flora Farms has been a fully self-sustaining organic farm. Tucked in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains in San Jose del Cabo, the farm is known for cooking up some incredible meals with 100% homegrown produce.
A bustling farm setting with a restaurant, market and member-owned culinary cottages on property, Flora has now added an event space known as the Mango Grove Barn to their docket. The barn is secluded from the rest of the property, providing privacy for events, yet still allowing access to the gardens and all that Flora Farms charm.
The ambience at Flora Farms is so dreamy that simplistic design is a gorgeous way to accentuate the surroundings. In the case of Pina’s bash, she went fun and bright with colors and flowers, as well as brought in super cozy lounge areas for guests to enjoy the nature and stars around them. With simple overhanging bistro lights providing that extra glow and hanging greenery over the covered area of the dining tables to bring the outside in, we think she nailed the design.
Phototgraphers, Ana & Jerome, who were there to caputre the day, were kind enough to fill us in on all of the venue and gathering details.
What made this venue an ideal location for the birthday bash?
Pina is great friends with the owners of Flora Farms and she’s a regular there. She said she feels like it’s her home away from home. She told me she was very happy with her life and she wanted the colors and the party to reflect happiness.
What makes both the area + the venue a good destination for a group getaway or event?
The area is very unique in Cabo. It's the complete opposite experience to the hotel/resort by the beach. It’s unexpected, yet absolutely the place to be on a Saturday night.
Can you tell us a bit about the design details at the event?
Pina was inspired by Huichol embroidery and their bright colors. She sourced embroidered fabric from Sayulita, Nayarit. The colors echo the flowers, all bright pink and orange, which looked beautiful when contrasted with the white tables and furniture.
What were some of the highlights of your experience?
Flora Farms is renowned for the incredibly fresh, delicious food they create with their abundance of produce and farm raised animals. You can depend on their chefs to provide seasonal menus with a creative spin on traditional Mexican fare and the bartenders make some seriously good cocktails. They reeled us in with that hibiscus mezcal margarita!
What made the venue a great backdrop and setting for photos?
The gorgeous greenery as well as the many different settings for photo ops.
What food was served at this festive gathering?
Pomegranate martinis, cilantro gin-n-tonics, Flora Farms old fashioned, hibiscus mezcal margaritas, Flora’s free-range chicken and pork, Mexican green salad fresh from the garden, cilantro rice, tres leches, flan, flaming rompope, and Mexican coffee.
Did you meet anyone at the venue that you connected with or made a lasting impression?
Most people at the event were wedding/event industry so we all work together and party together: Yahwe from Del Cabo Event, Arianna Ocampo from One and Only Palmilla, Sarai Flores from Signature Weddings. All of us love Pina and she always throws the best parties!
What was your favorite design elements of the venue?
The beautiful views of the lush green Baja countryside, and the barn which is private, the amazingly beautiful and their attention to detail is outstanding.
This birthday bash is stunning! What other ypes of events do you think Flora Farm is ideal for?
I think it’s perfect for weddings or birthday parties, or any event really. It’s very private and everyone that sees the place for the first time falls in love with it.
