In case you missed it, our team recently traveled north to experience the fabulous new Palihotel Seattle, and we have more to say. In addition to enjoying the cozy amenities they have to offer, we alsohad the honor of receiving an insider tour of Pike Place Market from the talented duo behind the hotel’s award-winning restaurant, The Hart and The Hunter.
Home to one of the West Coast’s oldest neon signs, Pike Place Market is arguably the most iconic farmers' market in the United States. This century old, 9-acre market is opened 363 days a year (save Thanksgiving and Christmas), and home to over 80 vendors to tempt your taste buds. Located just a few strides down the street from Palihotel Seattle, it’s easy to spend your visit exploring all of the local offerings.
Talented Tour Leaders
This is where we introduce you to Michelin starred Chef, Joey Elenterio and Head of F&B, Dan Sabo. Fun fact about Chef Joey Elenterio, at just 25, he is the youngest American chef to receive a Michelin star and after tasting his divine dishes, it’s alarmingly clear why. He has mastered a way of using locally sourced, fresh ingredients to completely transform and elevate your favorite comfort dishes into an exquisite spread that will have you booking your return visit ASAP.
But Joey isn’t the only star behind The Hart and The Hunter, Dan Sabo (who is the head of Food & Beverage for all of Palisociety properties) is a legend of his own. To say you haven’t lived until you’ve tried some of his meticulously prepared craft cocktails would not be an understatement. Insider tip: try the ‘Hunter Buck’ which uses an exclusive Seattle-sourced ginger beer from their neighbor, Rachel’s Ginger Beer. Yum.
Market Exploring and Fish Toss Firsts
Not only did our tour come fully equipped with the famous City Fish Co. fish toss (thanks for that bucket list check, Dan!), numerous food + beverage tastings and a brief history lesson of Pike Place Market – the main goal of the trip was to source ingredients for Chef Joey to prepare a mouth-watering lunch to follow our tour.
After our rainy market excursion, Chef Joey warmed our bellies (and our hearts) with an incredible afternoon spread of pan seared salmon from City Fish Co. over basmati rice with a hearty vegetable medley filled with fresh tomatoes and mushrooms from Sosio’s Produce, followed by homemade chocolate chip cookies and strawberry ice cream sandwiches.
South Meets North
Originally established in Los Angeles in 2011, The Hart and The Hunter is bringing their laid-back southern-inspired cuisine all the way to the Pacific Northwest. Menu highlights include their famous butter biscuits, cracklings and, of course, their signature burger. Unique to the Seattle location are exclusive dishes such as the Washington Cheese Board (with pairings sourced from Beechers, no doubt), sweet and spicy salmon jerky, and the savory smoked BBQ mushroom sandwich. So. Good.
With fresh and locally sourced ingredients and a cocktail and wine bar, The Hart and The Hunter not only provides the perfect night out but also serves as a great event space for intimate gatherings and celebrations. Looking for a quicker visit? They are also home to a custom coffee counter with street facing window service, serving a local Seattle favorite, Anchorhead Coffee. If nothing else, it’s the perfect pit stop as you begin your own tour of Pike Place Market.
