Ever since Cuba opened its doors to tourists, we’ve been having level-9 freakouts about how stunning the small Caribbean country is. With its beautiful and crusty old 16th century architecture and classic Spanish Colonial style, Cuba offers an experience that seems to be almost frozen in time. The warm beaches and lush overgrowth of the countryside, the bustling beat of Havana, and the incredibly charming people of this island make it seem alive with authenticity.

The brilliant duo behind the lens at travel and photography blog This is The Place I Was Telling You About recently trekked to Cuba with the Cuba Travel Network. Not only were they willing to share their insanely gorgeous photos, but they’ve also given us the full scoop on their trip. Read on for the highlights.

What prompted this getaway?
We partnered with Cuba Travel Network for this trip to document and photograph Cuba through our eyes. We knew about this trip for about 5 months so the anticpation had built up beyond belief.

What was your favorite part about your stay?
The people. Cubans are so resilient, beautiful, grateful people. They were so welcoming and warm, we were invited into our cab drivers home so he could show us where he lived, his family and some of his favorite photos.

Did you eat/drink anything memorable?
El Del Frente was our first stop as soon as we dropped our bags off and this by far was our favorite place in Cuba. The food was great, the drinks were perfect and the rooftop vibes really puts you at ease.

Any fun stories?
We took a cab out to Cayo Santa Maria, which is about 30 minutes outside of Havana. We hung out on the beach until the sun set. The beach began to clear out about an hour before so we practically had the entire beach to ourselves during sunset. Magical!

Travel tips:
There aren't really any stores in Cuba so bring everything you need, such as snacks and medicine. Also be sure to make a reservation for dinner as the good restaurants tend to pack up quickly.
