A Winter Adventure
Gloomy Mountain Picnic
Palomar Mountain
REPORTER: The Venue Report

We've all been there. Anxious for adventure but lazy with weakness from the past week. Especially in the busy colder months. Winter has become known as the season to hibernate, stay cozy and stay away from anything outdoors unless it has something to do with buying all those holiday gifts. It's time to wake those bones up, folks. We gotta get out there! And what better way to explore than to explore with your better half, your person, your human. This month we challenge you to plan a surprise date adventure that will WOW that special someone. Whether you've been dating for 5 months, married for what may seem like centuries, or just trying to get inspired for a first date. From East to West, North to South, we've got you covered with the best places to road trip and sites to see this winter.

What prompted this report? Well, our very own, Nathan Mueller, recently gave his gal a balloon and whisked her away to Palomar Mountain just in time to catch the winter gloom and fog after a passing storm. Yea, it all started with a balloon. You see, when you give a girl a balloon you must follow with a surprise adventure and a picnic at a scenic location. It's the perfect formula for a winter date. Sometimes life's best adventures are the most simple. Want to copy and paste at a rad sought out destination near you? See below!

We’ve all dreamed about life under the sea. Catchy Disney songs aside, we’ve grown up fantasizing about holding our breaths longer—or simply being able to breathe like a fish—so we could stay the cool wilderness of an underwater world. Such a power would give us the opportunity to explore deep sea caves, witness existence in the depths of the ocean, behold some of the most colorful wildlife on the planet, and meditate in an expansive, noiseless, and relaxing space. This week’s #BirthdayBucketList is about finally making good on that wild hope.

At The Manta Resort on Tanzania’s Pemba Island, you get the closest you ever will to your wish. Here, you can stay underwater for hours, days, or weeks! That's because off the coast is a breathtaking underwater room of windows with a very soft bed in it. Turquoise waves roll around the Swedish-engineered floating structure just above the reef floor, and you get to be a part of it. You get to live underwater without having to worry about oxygen levels. Simply put, it’s the hotel room we’ve always dreamed of, ever since we were kids.

It's hard to imagine that there’s anyone on the planet that isn’t at least a little bit curious to explore Antarctica. Even those who hate traveling or can’t stand the cold must have fleeting moments of expressing at least an if-only scenario or two—if only I’m wearing 20 layers and still walk, if only I’m constantly fed a hot cocoa diet, if only I could teleport there so I could pet a penguin and then teleport back to bed.

Well, if you’re curious about the coolest and most luxurious way to explore Antarctica (that actually exists), it’s called White Desert Antarctica and it’s amazing.

REPORTER: Jake Kilroy

When it comes to “Heaven on Earth,” people tend to think small. It’s easy to consider joy in recent, local experiences—a friend’s backyard, a community garden, a nice day at the beach. But if you and your friends or family have ever been in the same room when a photo or video of Norway pops up, it’s as if everyone is seeing Earth for the first time. It’s a mumbling of wows and sincere promises of future trips, yet given how untouched the green hillsides and blue waters are, it’s hard to believe there’s ever been a single person in Norway. But you can go there. You can actually visit Heaven on Earth. Better yet, you have the opportunity to spend your birthday beneath the Midnight Sun or the Northern Lights, all in a stylish space that gives you all the comfort and activity you could possibly want.

This week’s #BirthdayBucketList is the gorgeous 55-acre island that is Manshausen—or the seaside cabins that make up Manshausen Island Resort to be exact. We’re talking magnificent and contemporary luxury huts that have floor-to-ceiling window walls to ensure that you wake up and go to sleep with the Norwegian sea and mountains in full view.

Trip of a Lifetime

We often dream of waking up beneath new skies surrounded by unknown land. There’s even something dreamlike about actually experiencing that reality. We go places we don’t recognize in order to appreciate the world and our place in it. It’s just something we’re able to do much better away from the all-too-familiar walls that we call home.

Back home, we cherish the family and friends that we’re able to rely on, laugh with, and join in this remarkable adventure of life. We toast to grand living and good health. Yet, each October, we are freshly reminded of breast cancer’s harsh reality, as we celebrate survivors and fundraise for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. That’s why last October, the Venue Report teamed up with Devin Brugman and Natasha Oakley from A Bikini A Day to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

To really grab people’s attention, we decided to go big—really big. That meant bringing on Four Seasons as a partner to go the extra mile...or nearly 9,000 extra miles. So I guess we actually went really, really big, because after running a bitchin’ Instagram contest, we sent our winners to Thailand! Yup, that’s right. Thailand. See, as much as our venturesome team at the Venue Report loves to see the world, few things pump us up more than having the chance to send others on the adventure of a lifetime. Thanks to Four Seasons and A Bikini A Day, we were able to do just that.
