We’re not sure what it is about fall, but as soon as it hits, this escapism mechanism in our brains just starts screaming, “get me to a cozy cabin!” And as soon as that little alarm goes off, we’re off the races exploring tiny houses, log cabins, cozy cottages and A-frame getaways of every location, size and style. But don’t worry. We won’t keep all the goods to ourselves.
Here’s a round-up of all the cushy, comfy, cozy spots we love this year, many that were suggested directly by you, our readers. Some have been around a while, others are brand new to the scene or just about to open. Mixed among the options are Adirondack cabins in the mountains, cottages along the lakeshore, hot spring havens and summer camps that are open for fall and winter too.

The promise of fresh snowfall and all that soft white powder that piles on the mountaintops is setting our Alpine radar on high alert as we head into the winter season. While we love a day on the slopes as much as the next Olympian, we have even more love for the après-ski hangouts and hotels that offer cozy vibes, beautiful backdrops and design-savvy digs. Tag along as we traipse across the snowy globe in search of our next shred spot.

Gatherings

New Year’s Eve is one of our favorite holidays here at the Venue Report. Why? Because it’s celebrated by nearly every culture around the world. In Iceland, people burn big community bonfires to get rid of the past year’s bad juju. In South Africa, people parade through the streets in costume. In Newfoundland, people share poetry over a gunfire salute. And in Miami, well, in Miami people party like rage machines.
We’ve covered all your New Year’s celebration possibilities, from California glamping to luxury hotel stays in the Maldives, from African safari adventures to late-night parties in Los Angeles. If you can't make it this year, save these for your dream gatherings and getaways for next year! So, here’s to a brilliant 2016, filled with more opportunities to travel, gather and explore!

From the rustic charm of the beautifully appointed cabins, to the natural splendor of the mineral hot springs, Dunton most certainly serves as the perfect setting for this memorable event.

Just across the mountain from Telluride, Dunton Hot Springs Resort is a romantic ghost town, set in an extraordinary alpine valley.

Adjoining the Saloon and equally steeped in history, the Dance Hall is the perfect place for a wedding party or a family gathering.

Variously described as a sanctuary, a haven, or just a place to lose yourself, the Library is both a work of art in itself and a repository of lovely books.

All of Dunton’s authentically restored log cabins are full of fascinating details. All the cabins are hand-built and, in some cases, by the original miners themselves. Lovingly restored, each possesses a distinct character.

Our resorts offer a variety of day and overnight packages, and the entire town or ranch can be rented exclusively for corporate retreats, family reunions and weddings.

Christy tent interior. The tent boasts a spacious floor plan with gas stove, and luxurious appointments; while the oversized, en-suite bath features a generous shower with striking views of the Wilson Mountain Range.

Another of the original cabins, New House lies in the center of the town. It has two floors with a living-room and master bedroom downstairs.

The owner's former residence is an immensely comfortable family home. From almost every window the views of the surrounding peaks are simply stunning. A private retreat in itself and can be a long term rental.

Free of cell phones, this romantic old mining town still provides high speed wireless internet access in every cabin and video conferencing in our dance hall to the comforting sound of a tumbling waterfall.

Dunton’s hot springs are controlled by tectonic forces associated with the Triassic Dolores Formation. The springs are located on the trace of a north trending fault and encompass an area of approximately 0.3 square miles.
