- The Scene:
The old building where La Escollera is based is over a 150 years old and was used by the Salinera Española, the company that still harvests sea salt from the beautiful and famous salt flats you drive past when coming to the restaurant. We are in the middle of an UNESCO natural reserve. There are many special birds to see, over 200 species! Most of them are migrating species - like pink flamingos.
Right next to the restaurant and the breakwater where the restaurant is named after, lies the main entrance canal where all the seawater flows towards the salt flats. The entire salt flat area including Es Cavallet beach, Salinas beach and parts of the island Formentera, has been proclaimed natural reserve since 2001. On the earlier mentioned breakwater is where wedding ceremonies are held, with a stunning 180 degrees view of the sea. The location near the salt flats adds a timeless feel - it’s almost like going back in time - and the isolation is incredible, and only 6 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from Ibiza!- Design:
The look and feel of La Escollera is modern yet traditional, sophisticated yet rustic, adjusted to it's natural environment as much as possible in order to do the island, the beach and the sea justice. The main role goes to the glorious Mediterranean sea, with the island of Formentera on it's horizon, right in front of us! When the moon is full on a clear night, you can see it rising up from the sea, which is incredible. The glass walls from our inside area make it a perfect all-weather location.
- Extra Perks:
- Long wooden tables or round tables with white table-cloth. 300 chairs. Coarse sea salt straight from the neighboring salt-flats and fresh bougainvillea or olive branches for decoration. Many outside candles and lanterns. Beautiful lighting throughout the restaurant, with a spotlight on the beach and sea. A big southafrican tent with romantic disco lighting.
For a wedding ceremony: 40 ceremony chairs with white upholstery. 2 different ceremony altars. 2 different isles (white or raffia), a second music installation with speakers and a microphone.
- Bars & Lounges:
- We have three beautiful outside bars and one in our inside area.
