HISTORY
The history of the family and the country house
Masia Egara (Ca n’Amat de la Muntanya), located in Terrassa, 25km north of Barcelona, is a Catalan country house surrounded by 300 hectares of farmland and forest.
The Country House stands at the center of the property and it is a typical Catalan construction of the early 16th Century. The House is in excellent condition and its interiors boast beautiful furniture and paintings of all different periods, from 16th century tapestries to modern art.
The House is surrounded by 4Ha of fabulous centennial gardens, designed by the school of the famous architect Rubió i Tudurí, being one of the best preserved private gardens in Catalonia.
The house has always belonged to the same family. The first known reference of the house dates back to the early 13th century and several documents state that by that time, Ca n’Amat was under the ruling of the monastery of Montserrat.
The house as it stands was built in the 16th century. The family were farmers originally, but after the Industrial Revolution in Spain, they became successful textile engineers from the 18th century on.
The current owners are descendants of Don Alfonso Sala i Argemí, 1st count of Egara, an honour which was bestowed upon him in the early 20th century.
The house was reconverted 25 years ago to accommodate both family gatherings and corporate events, without losing the essence which has characterized it throughout the years.

The House has always welcomed all of the family members as well as many illustrious figures.
Amongst the personalities who have visited Masia Egara, we count King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia, who honoured the house in two occasions, as well as King Don Juan Carlos and Queen Doña Sofía.
