HISTORY
The history of the family and the country house

Masia Egara (Ca n’Amat de la Muntanya), located in Terrassa, 25km north of Barcelona, is a Catalan country house surrounded by 300 hectares of farmland and forest.

The Country House stands at the center of the property and it is a typical Catalan construction of the early 16th Century. The House is in excellent condition and its interiors boast beautiful furniture and paintings of all different periods, from 16th century tapestries to modern art.

The House is surrounded by 4Ha of fabulous centennial gardens, designed by the school of the famous architect Rubió i Tudurí, being one of the best preserved private gardens in Catalonia.

The house has always belonged to the same family. The first known reference of the house dates back to the early 13th century and several documents state that by that time, Ca n’Amat was under the ruling of the monastery of Montserrat.

The house as it stands was built in the 16th century. The family were farmers originally, but after the Industrial Revolution in Spain, they became successful textile engineers from the 18th century on.

The current owners are descendants of Don Alfonso Sala i Argemí, 1st count of Egara, an honour which was bestowed upon him in the early 20th century.

The house was reconverted 25 years ago to accommodate both family gatherings and corporate events, without losing the essence which has characterized it throughout the years.

Illustrious guests

The House has always welcomed all of the family members as well as many illustrious figures.

Amongst the personalities who have visited Masia Egara, we count King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia, who honoured the house in two occasions, as well as King Don Juan Carlos and Queen Doña Sofía. Another well-known guest who stayed at Masia Egara was Salvador Dalí, who signed the guestbook with a drawing.A multitude of other important people from both the industrial and the cultural world (on a national and international level) have visited Masia Egara on the occasion of different events and celebrations over the past 25 years.

SPACES

Masia Egara and its surroundings allow for a wide variety of events, such as weddings and private family celebrations.

In the corporate context, conventions and business presentations are organised. Likewise, its privileged location in Sant Llorenç de Munt and the Obac mountain chain, allows the visitor to plan adventure and teambuilding activities, as well as film and advertisement shootings.

The Terrace
Once passed the main gate, we find a magnificent traditional Catalan terrace unfolding in front of the house.

Its large dimensions, and the splendid views of the garden and the fields which surround the house, make this space a unique and versatile setting, perfect for any type of celebration.

This space is the ideal placement for outdoor wedding receptions, cocktail events, dinner parties or any type of outdoor show.

Halls of the House
The interior of the house is made up of three adjacent rooms which are communicated with one another. These rooms are used mainly for receptions, cocktails and meetings. The guests can visit the inside of the house if they please to see its beautiful décor.

Reception Hall: This wonderful room still maintains the original decoration with antiques and family portraits, just as the rest of the house. The fireplace gives it a warm allure when it burns during the winter.

Main dining room: Adjacent to the Reception hall we find the Imperial dining room, with its imperial dining table, ceramic pieces and a great fireplace. This is where the family held – and still holds – their family gatherings.

Fireplace dining room: The smallest of the three rooms is a cosy space where once again the fireplace is the main feature and retains everyone who approaches it.

Green Garden
Below the Terrace we find the Green Garden. The tall pine trees, lawns and the view to the front of the house make this space a bucolic corner for cocktails and/or civil ceremonies.

Red Garden
The Red Garden is next to the Green Garden, named after its most dominating color. Its design is symmetrical and it is bordered by huge oaks and cypresses which reveal an original spiral staircase on one end and a stairway of the last century on the other end.

Centennial Garden
Along the side of the pavilion, there is a versatile space surrounded by centennial trees. It can hold civil ceremonies, receptions or other types of events.

Centennial Garden Pavilion
Integrated in the centennial garden we find an open space to hold large celebrations. From the inside, one can contemplate the marvellous garden.

Cellar
Converted today into one of the rooms used to hold events, this room is where the crops of the farm were once kept.
It has large windows overlooking the gardens and it is decorated with period paintings; its masterpiece being a Flemish tapestry from the 16th century.

Chapel
One of the most unique areas of the house is its warm and intimate chapel, presided by an altarpiece of the 16th century and various works of art.
