Nickel & Diner serves globally driven, re-imagined diner fare inspired by Executive Chef Charles Cho’s experience helming top kitchens all over the world. The restaurant offers an elevated take on classic diner dishes. The ever-evolving menus are reflective of the local and seasonal ingredients from surrounding markets and neighborhoods.
A seasoned chef with over 20 years of experience, Chef Cho draws inspiration from the familiarity and accessibility of five & dime lunch counters and classic diners. With a focus on the freshest, locally sourced ingredients available, Nickel & Diner takes an eclectic approach to American cuisine, eschewing from typically expected diner fare. Located in the crossroads of Soho, Little Italy, and Chinatown, inspiration is everywhere for Chef Cho, who feels fortunate to have the ability to source local produce as close as just down the street.
Nickel & Diner’s cocktail program features twists on the classics with Asian influences. Signature cocktails include the Chantilly Lace made with vodka, chrysanthemum, lemon and sparkling wine; Irish Wake Up Call with Irish whiskey, porter syrup, Stumptown cold brew coffee, and cream; Bloody Mariko a spin on the classic Bloody Mary with vodka, tomato, ponzu, lemon, bacon, and pickled shishito pepper; and more. A variety of draft beer and wine are also available by the glass or bottle.
The interior, designed by Dutch East Design, evokes streamline art deco with a contemporary flare and is set within a nearly century-old pagoda-style building. Inside, the decor is reminiscent of a 1920’s diner with a long bar counter and accents like spherical metal light fixtures, blue leather banquettes, and black geometrically patterned tables that will transport you to another era.
Nickel & Diner is located at 1 Howard Street, between Lafayette and Centre Streets. Reservations are accepted via OpenTable, or by calling (646) 870-6100.
