- The Scene:
- This is a mixused space. As guests enter through the Gold Leaf Gallery, they are greeted with innovative street art in a traditional gallery setting. A small lobby, perfect for a welcome reception area, is located immediately to the right, with large handcrafted stained glass windows. The gallery exits into an open courtyard flanked with two shipping containers on either side. One container features an inventive “cabana” seating area, while the other includes an innovative bottle-art light installation. The entire outdoor space boasts unconventional materials incorporated into innovate design elements, including planters made from repurposed tires, packing crates with native succulents, and a fire pit made from mechanical components. The entire venue is an artistic, progressive, and yet customizable space, ideal for innovate events and celebrations.
- Design:
The L.W.P. Group Headquarters or as we refer to it, “The National,” is a multi use space that was designed to bring people together. From start to finish this project’s purpose was to stay authentic to the geographical location of the property, Barrio Logan. The industrial modern design mixed with vintage pieces from various periods were intentionally chosen to connect the inspiration of not only the area, but our brands as well. When entering the building it was important to highlight the company’s mantra with the neon “Que Sea Un Gran Dia” sign, reminding everyone to make a great day. As you walk through the stained glass entrance which was inspired by Paul Klee, you’re welcomed by our lounge; an open and comfortable gathering area for casual meetings and guests to enjoy. This is our interpretation of urban renewalism, a design by an artist named Jon Ritt. Just behind the lounge is our work spaces where about 8 of us work daily amongst all our brands.
The Gold Leaf Project is a non profit art initiative whose mission is to advance artistic expression and appreciation. The gallery is part of The National and currently features an artist by the name of Tijuanauta. L.W.P. Group commissions artists' and muralists' participation throughout the project and later distribute the pieces throughout the cities of San Diego and Tijuana.
As you make your way next door, One Bunk is a boutique hotel experience available to book via Airbnb. Our first location opened here in Barrio Logan. The 500 square foot studio is adjacent to our offices and gallery. We focused on a Mid-century style with handmade crafts from both sides of the border, as we just recently launched our second location in Tijuana, México.
The backyard is one of our special spaces. We were fortunate enough to work with some local creatives in the structure of it all. An artist by the name of Acamonchi did the piece on the backgate, Oscar Romo created the pieces out of recycled bottles and tires, and the magnolia tree on the lower patio was craned in; everything you see outside is new. We cautiously chose drought intolerant plants and synthetic turf in an effort to conserve water. The shipping containers are very indigenous to Barrio; typically used for storage but we decided to add a conference room and cabana to one. The shipping call out numbers reflect the Strangman kid’s names, birth weights, and birth dates. This property is all in the details and the idea was ultimately to find an innovative design where repurposed materials could tastefully blend with some vintage charm.- Standout Venue Features:
- We also offer a 1-room hotel accommodation: Mid-century style and handmade crafts from both sides of the border abound in our one-of-a-kind 500SF studio. We are a bit obsessed with hospitality! We will do almost anything to make your stay the best it can be.
