SCOUT is a 4,000-square-foot showroom and retail gallery in the renovated historic Officer’s Quarters D. The house is set on a one-acre garden on the NTC campus in Point Loma. This former naval-base commander’s home is open to the public for the first time in 89 years. The story of the four officers’ quarters in the Naval Training Center is an integral part of a significant chapter in the history of San Diego’s growth. As you walk through the historic home, it’s easy to see how Scout @ Quarters D honors, respects and highlights NTC’s rich and life-transforming past and the lives of the Commanders who lived here. Naval Training Center San Diego was built during the 1920s in the Spanish Colonial style familiar to many who visit Balboa Park. The four historic homes were home to commanding officers and their families until the base was closed in 1997. In 2003, The NTC Foundation was formed to restore 26 historic architecturally significant buildings (including Quarters D) on 28 park-like acres to their original Spanish Colonial Revival-style and develop an arts and culture district for all to enjoy. After significant restoration and design enhancements, SCOUT @ Quarters D was reborn in May of 2012 as the offices of SCOUT Design, a showroom and retail gallery and an event venue. SCOUT Design is a full-service design group offering home staging, interior and event design services, color consultation and florals.
