- Kevin, the builder, and owner of Sparrow Creek own a salvage yard. Yep, that's right. How did a salvage yard owner come to build a wedding venue? His daughter, Kalli, was having a hard time finding a location that spoke to her and now husband's aesthetic. At the time, in 2011, there were very few "barn venues" in the area or rustic venues at all. So Kevin decided to build the barn that now hosts weddings from all over the state! Kevin is a fervent believer in reuse and recycle. The old tin that covers the outside of the barn has been salvaged from barns and even gyms from all over North Texas. Same for the old barn wood that covers the interior walls and will soon be the floor for the 'grand room' coming Fall 2017.
If you take a close look at the supporting beams in the barn you might start to recognize them as old bridge girder! Twelve years ago Kevin decided "some day" those bridge pieces would make for an incredible design feature--and they do! Most of the light fixtures and antique chandeliers were finds from the journey through Hill Country antique shows. But, four of them came to Kalli a few months before the wedding. A neighbor came over one day and said: "we are cleaning out this house, would you be interested in any fixtures?" Kalli walked away with the two small side chandeliers and two medium sized ones that day. A similar story happened with the antique mirrors on the back way. Most were treasures from Round Top Antique fair over the last few decades, but three of them came from an abandoned lake house! Kalli and her mom, Linda dragged them out just before the bulldozers got to work. This story has repeated itself over and over. God has provided the unique and amazing materials from the most unbelievable places to make SCR a one of a kind venue. - Extra Perks:
