Venue Setting

Swinton Bivouac holds an impressive 70 acres of forestry and pasture land within the 20,000 acre Swinton Estate. The estate stretches from the River Ure up to the rolling hills of the open moorland. Swinton Bivouac borders the Yorkshire Dales National Park with views of open expanses of wild Yorkshire scenery, reservoirs and small farm steads. Our large woodland is at the site’s highest point with a historic Druids monument at its heart and smaller stone features to find amongst the trees. Your wedding celebrations will take place in the centre of the natural, historic and unique surrounding, creating a wonderful atmosphere and magnificent setting for your special day.

Your evening reception will take place centred around the bistro café. The café, which has become the heart of Bivouac, has been sensitively restored from an old barn in 2012, creating a beautiful space for any occasion.

At Swinton Bivouac you are welcome to celebrate your marriage or civil partnership from 2 people to 80, in a breath taking location where you have the freedom to relax and enjoy sharing an unforgettable experience with your family and friends, surrounded by stunning scenery. Experience the woodland with the Druid Follies surrounded by its 45 mile view of the great Yorkshire countryside. Unwind together with family and friends in the rustic enchanting and comfortable accommodation. Gather around our community fire pits, share a wood fuelled hot tub and eat and drink together in our gorgeous bistro café and bar.

The Scene:
Woodland Ceremonies

It is without doubt the very heart of your wedding day and therefore we believe that your ceremony is something your guests should remember for years to come.

Although we are not licensed for civil ceremonies, in our wonderful woodland setting, you have the opportunity to exchange personal promises in a unique wedding ceremony. With no set scripts or restrictive format, you have the freedom to expresses your individuality as a couple. Most couples choose to complete the legal aspects of their marriage separately from their outdoor Woodland Ceremony.

The Woodland Ceremony includes seating, shepherd hooks down the walkway with jam jars hanging our Swinton Estate seasonal flowers in, and a blank canvas for you to personalise. After your beautiful ceremony, your guests can enjoy woodland games and explore the Druids Temple while you have your photographs taken.

We can set up a woodland bar so you and your guests can enjoy a celebratory glass of fizz, served amidst the most spectacular scenery.

The Evening Reception

The evening reception can be held in our delightful café & bar which is transformed into a wonderful evening venue.

The café can seat around 40 people comfortably, so if your numbers are greater, you can choose to hire a PapaKata Teepee or Yorkshire Yurt to provide extra space for the wedding breakfast. This can be positioned adjoining the café to extend the space.

Turn the café into the dance floor and bar area, turn the family room into a kids play area, or chill out den, spill out into the garden and patio areas and enjoy the stunning views, light the bonfires and braziers, and celebrate under the stars.  You can decorate your tent as you wish to make your wedding personal to you.

Eats & Drinks
Food, Restaurants, Cafes, Bars & Lounges
Food, Restaurants, Cafes:
The Bivouac café lies at the heart of our site and is the perfect waterhole for our resident guests and visiting walkers, families and those who want to simply enjoy the scenery. With uncomplicated dishes and snacks to tickle the taste buds, feel free to pop in for coffee and cake, a light lunch, or make an evening of it and enjoy a delicious meal in this distinctive setting. Where we can, we strive to get fresh local produce for our ingredients.

On warm summer days visitors can sit out on the patio and enjoy a cup of tea or light snack while being soothed by the spectacular views down into the valley. The log burner keeps the mezzanine level in our cafe nice and toasty for wetter Yorkshire days providing a snug setting for you to enjoy your food while looking down over the main cafe area. Hidden below is our family den with a selection of toys to entertain your children and provide a creative place to play. For the more inquisitive just step through the doors of the family den into our walled garden where you can sit out and delight in the beautiful scenery!
